ARCH ENEMY

If you guys like a really fucked-up sounding live DVD, just get the latest from Children of Bodom. Horrible guitar tone, sloppy drunken playing, and overall poor production values. Very accurate representation of them on this tour, Janne and Roope are the only guys keeping it all together.

Makes me sad because I love that band. They (especially Alexi) need to slow down on the partying and realize they're supposed to be putting on a good show, to fans who paid good money to see them rule!

i know, it's hard to listen to it's so bad.

IMHO Roope isn't keeping it together either, that dude used to be so fucking tight, now he's getting sloppy like Alexi, his guitar solo on the Chaos Ridden Years DVD is shit compared to what he's capable of. I think like you said, they're all still capable of playing tight as fuck, just they're not concentrating on that anymore, and it spoils their live act completely.

I dont see any sloppy playing :erk:

I hope that was sarcastic lol. It's like Alexi forgot how to hit the string properly, it's all scrapes and shit, not proper precise picking, he never digs into the strings unless it's for a harmonic, hence why the tone seems so shit as well.

You know I made my woman watch some of their DVD yesterday and I mentioned that there were a lot of forum guys who can't stand how sloppy they are. She couldn't tell. She said, "it looks like they're having a good time!"...

Ya I'm not going to argue with anyone, because you are right, they are not that tight on the DVD. But at the same time, they are a terrific live band if you're drinking, and they did a great job of capturing that on the DVD.

I guess it's just cos I've loved this band for years and they always used to be so tight, so it's just disappointing now. But yeah, it's still a cool DVD. And to be honest when I saw them back in 2004, they might have played shit then, and I wouldn't have noticed cos I was banging my fucking head off.

Looks like ill have to watch again. I havent watched it for ages but I remember I wasn't dissapointed by their performance! But the guitar tone was a bit iffy if I remember correctly. Still...

Anybody has a clue what's up with the Anthems of Rebellion kick and snare?
Sampled or acoustisc? I presumme snare 50/50 and snare 100%.
But was the kick a self made sample or one exported from a nice module?

Man I've been listening to Anthems Of Rebellion again, and I think I prefer it to Doomsday overall, I've been trying to nail the toms at the start of Dehumanization, no fucking chance lol. The guitars are more to my liking as well, TripleXXX+5150 FTW! Also the OH's sound awesome on this album.

2 questions.

Anyone have XXX settings used by Andy? I recently recorded a band using my XXX and their 5150.

To my surprise, I liked the final sound of the XXX more. Could have been the player, guitar and pickups, or tubes, but thats how I felt at the time.

Basically I used Andy's settings for the 5150 Lead Channel from an Interview I found.

I used the settings on the Rythm Channel of the XXX, and the Lead Channel of the 5150 through a OD808 on the usual Andy settings.

SM57 on a Mashall 4x12 Vintage 30.

Just curious if there are any settings floating around.

2nd Question.

I am sometimes unclear with the statements regarding quad tracking of guitars.

Sounds like Andy is saying in an interview each guitar will be recorded through 2 amps, 2tracks of each amp. 2 tracks Panned hard left and right, and 2 tracks panned at say 80%.

Would that be XXX on Left hard and 80% and 5150 on Right Hard and 80%?

Or XXX and 5150 on left, XXX and 5150 on Right?
