Bands that have sold out?

well rap would be one of those I listenend to about twice unless it was background music in some movie, which I prolly tuned out. There are a few other styles I never gave much ear time either... also due to my personal musical definations. That doesnt change the fact that other people like those styles plenty and wouldnt want to listen to my music. So the moral of the story is "peoples is different" and want different things from their music. Not worth sweating unless Im tied to a chair and forced to listen to it.... in which case I would act like I was having the time of my life, to be set free...... so I could annihilate my tasteless adversaries

R u serious :puke::puke::puke::puke::puke:

This is the ultimate metal forum, thats sacrileage!!!!

Do you eat just one kind of food, too?

I'd say metal isn't even half of what I listen to. Having a variety of tastes isn't sacrilege, it's an indication of being exposed to many different styles and being open-minded enough to appreciate them all.

No, but i'm not going to eat it if it makes me puke, and rappers are talentless and make me puke. To think that they can make money out of the total shit they put out is sad and a reflection on the world today sadly. Way too many talented musos out there that need a break and rappers are definately NOT in that category:heh:

You missed my initial point. Just as not all metal is about drinking goat's blood and worshiping Satan, not all rap is about bitches and ho's. Just like metal bands who play music for the love of it (just ask some of our regulars, I'm sure Skelator and Meltdown aren't exactly rolling in the dough right now), there are rappers who are in the same boat and rhyme because it's what they love. 50 cent is to rap as Korn is to metal. It's not good to be so judgmental; you're missing out on a lot of good music.

Wow...what an uptight, close-minded, and ignorant jerk you are coming across as...

Nobody cares if you don't like it, but "talentless"? It's simply a different talent than what you've chosen to accept. If it takes so little talent to do it then let's hear you take a crack at it sometime. Granted your response to that probably wont be any more intelligent or any less arrogant than anything you've already said. People like you make all metal guys look bad and unfortunately you aren't a rarity.

One thing i don't do is make metal people look bad and nor do i just listen to one style of music, i love classical, jazz. most of my friends who are musos debate this all the time and we always come to the same conclusion, rap isnt a talent but a way to scam money, and very demeaning to women!!!!

I have to say I think it is you who is appearing ignorant here, if he doesnt like a genre, he has the right to freedom of speech. What you're actually saying is that if he doesn't like something he's ignorant? and this is a forum if I'm not mistaken. I think rap is a huge part of the downfall of society, young kids are drawn towards it because it has the appeal of being "cool". It most certainly does lack talent too, I very rarely see any rappers playing an instrument. They create simple rhyming verses that not only sound incredibly corny, but also just plain dumb. But I suppose I'm ignorant now mr meedley?

Ignorant? Yes, in the sense that you didn't actually read my post. As I said, nobody cares if he doesn't like something, but to make ignorant, blanket statements as he did (calling them talentless) is absolutely retarded. My post might as well apply to you too. I wasn't aware that talent=playing an instrument.

Then you have no idea what you're talking about. Now, i'm not out to wave the flag for rap and hip-hop because that's not what this place is about nor is it my favorite form of music, but as Yas said, it's not all about bitches and hoes, it's not all demeaning to women nor is it uneducated. Not all rappers "sample" other people's music, etc. Yeah, there's shitty stuff out there that is demeaning to women and requries little talent, but we're talking about a scene from a different time and place than the MTV generation. For one of the more well known examples, check out NWA's Straight Outta Compton. Read some of the lyrics. It's a huge cultural difference.

On the flip side, there's someone like (yeah, i'll probably get shit for this too) the Beastie Boys who do have some pretty killer stuff. It's fun to change it up a bit, then you can go back to your evil baby-raping parent killing metal.

I'll reiterate what others have said: Rap isn't all about the bitches and the hoes. Just like not all metal is as shallow as Korn and Linkin Park, nor is it all as faggy as The Flower Kings or hillarious as Deicide. There's just as much diversity in the underground rap scene as there is in the underground metal scene.

Anyway, this argument is retarded. Dude, i can deal with a difference in opinion and closed mindedness (i am closed minded to a lot of metal/prog stuff), but outright ignorance is really gay.

This is the most hillarious horseshit i have ever read. Playing an instrument doesn't equal talent, just as not playing an instrument doesn't equal a lack of talent. Are great speach writers not talented? Again, time and place... people saw something wrong with the area they lived in, the violence and the hardships that were often blatantly ignored and they did what they could to bring it to the public eye. And while most of those folks who are well off would much rather ignore the ghettos and go about sipping their martinis and so on, it's still a reality. I'm not trying to say that these people are revolutionaries, but yeah, they have talent.

Again, difference between the white boy in the bmw that his daddy bought him with its pimped out sound system rockin' the latest Lil' John album and those who have a real shit life due to the circumstances they were born into.

Well, music doesn't get popular because people dislike it (william hung and dragonforce are the exception to this), and when people like something it's because they think it's good. So (stick with me on this one, here's where it gets tough), if a lot of people like something (i.e. regard it with favor or think it's good) it is, by definition, popular. Pretty clear-cut relationship there.

All the textbook definitions don't really mean much if you can't put 2 and 2 together to make 4.

Despite your condescending tone and obvious pride at the ability to add, I might point out to you that you're essentially saying that purple and trees are somehow correlated.

EDIT: Let me further illucidate the problem for you. What lots of people like = popular. Now of course, you're going to make that age old argument that no music is better than another. I beg to differ. There are many bands out there without the semblence of a clue how to produce. There are others who utterly lack structure. Note that I imply the presence or absence of structure, and not the necessity of a pre-defined acceptable set of structures such as verse-chorus-verse. But disorganized lack of structure, or the obvious use of a structure but a failure at the attempt, these things are more than just subjective. Compare an excellently produced masterpiece album with something I record on a webcam mic and Microsoft Sound Recorder. Again you could make that pathetic old cop-out argument that music is inherently subjective, but that only applies when comparing elements of the same type. People have differing tastes in music. People have different ideas of what good production is. But there are borders. And those borders should be obvious to someone who can add. Since all music is NOT subjective in the sense that I am arguing, which should have been common sense from the start, "Good" or "Better" music is NOT synonymous with "Popular" music, or that which everyone likes. Futhermore, it is not asynonymous. As you cleverly stated, some popular bands also fall into the good category. Therefore my dear Watson, Good and Popular are neither synonymous or asynonymous, and thus are unrelated descriptive modifiers.

And for the record, anyone who says "all rap is crap" is either A) an immature young adult who will soon grow out of their ignorance or B) someone who has never taken the time to actually search the plethora of rap artists for the cream of the crop.

back to subject, bands selling out. Iron maiden from 88 onwards imo. and doomsday, i like the flower kings lol:cool:

Yeah, i am aware you like gay stuff like the flower kings. Since we're making bullshit blanket statements, all stuff like that is gay... right?

And Maiden didn't sell out, their songwriting just got lazy and boring. They came back with Brave New World (dance of death was kinda shitty too).

I really do agree with Ken on this topic!

And as for my own two sense, Rap is a talent on its own, what your personal opinion is on it, should not change how good the music is. I hate rap, no doubt about it, but there is yes some very talented rappers out there, who are sticking there guns out not ryhming about bitches and hoes.

but since this is the bands selling out thread, it goes without saying alot of the talented rappers do move on with the new wave of music and what is popular, which is, drugs, bitches, and hoes. But you can't hate it because of that, I mean sex, drugs and rock n' roll right? Rap is not, and will never be the only demeaning music out there.

Well...who has the time to "search the plethora" of anything in life that they immediately find unappealing? I have never heard rap I enjoy, so I'm certainly not going to search for some that I do. You can dig it if you like...it sucks to me.

All blanket statements stem from ignorance, apathy or shear laziness.
