Bands you like that everyone else hates

I love DragonForce. I know most people hate them and think they're a joke but I don't care. And neither does the band. They have some kick-ass melodies and that's good enough for me.

*clap*

Re: Lizzy Borden, I saw their recent iteration with Lordi, and they blew the monsters off the stage. Had never heard of them before--and it's utterly hilarious how much they've changed in appearance, they look like a black-metal band now--but they still play some kickass traditional metal.

I like slipknot, everybody hates them, I'll agree their image they associate themselves with being absolute legends and perfect at what they do is annoying and immature, and their lyrics are a little whiny, but some of their songs I really dig, mainly the obscure ones. I've seen a lot of people nark on em for the same reason which is a little annoying, just to read 10 post saying the same thing or rather un-intelligent hating or just being a sheep.

Bethlehem did it first, but silencer DID IT BETTER.

I do like bethlehem though so don't start preparing the flame throwers.

#%"#'!"#'"!#@"#"*!

I really like the first few albums by Cradle of Filth, "Dusk and Her Embrace" was my first "extreme metal" album when I was a pimply teenager and I still think they do a fantastic job conveying their themes of "horny vampire ladies and castles and shit."

Edit: I also like old Slipknot and Static-X a lot. And if Orgy ever released more material, I'd be all over it like white on rice.

I think we all just cling to our old favorites/gateway records when disciussing possibly(god, I so don't want to use this term), ahem poser bands, since previous familiarity often creates an inseparable bond that no amount of obscure goodness can break. Dimmu Borgir was my introduction to black metal, and I still like some of their stuff. That said, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant fails to impress.:erk:
Amusingly, I like their impossibly overblown orchestral monstrosity-PEM much better.
Nightwish was the first metal band I've ever listened to and they're still amazing(to hell with the haters)

As I was thoroughly enjoying Evergrey, I thought I might should throw them up here, since they seem to get a negative reaction from most of the regulars, but I fucking love the band, especially their earlier albums. The last two are admittedly hit and miss.

Also, another thing I noticed, a lot of albums that are considered classics by many, when discovered too late often appear dated and underwhelming. For instance, King Crimson's debut is good, but great? I don't know. There are two great songs, and the rest is just there.(with the exception of Moonchild which is simply boring.

So do I since I think Camel are better than KC. Mirage in particular is so good; in fact I may be underrating it.
Many people don't like this sort of meandering prog. They're also devoid of any harshness that KC possess hence dubbed untroo by elitist progheads.

I've never met a single person that disliked Camel while liking that kind of music, but then again I don't talk to *that* many progheads. They're probably my favorite prog band too, though Pink Floyd would obviously give them a run for their money if I was in the mood for it a little more often..

They've got a very dreamy sound, sometimes spoiled by the occasionally shrill guitar tone, but it's quite an achievement, I'd say to write such complex compositions without sounding excessive. And they don't use harsh sax to roughen up their sound just for kicks, nor do they fill their albums with silence or meditative nothingness.:p

I think Camel are better too. Especially since the later KC albums are piles of turd, and IMO Camel may be the truest prog band around. Perhaps.
Camel were aweome in the 70s, then sucked in the 80s, they were incredibly cheesy. The last album, A Nod And A Wink, was atrocious. Rajaz was good though.
KC also changed their style in the 80s, but Discipline, for example, was still "prog" and nothing like Camel's Breathless for example.

Revenge,I believe is a band whom people either love or hate,I personally fall into the prior of the two,for me Revenge are a very unique band, alot of people talk trash about Revenge but really they are far superior to most of todays BM,following the ways of old and pushed to it's next logical conclusion,in the ways of Blasphemy,Beherit,Bestial Warlust.I cannot fault this band and am glad for their existence in these days of mediocrity. Was talking to Mersus from destroyer 666 pre-gig recently and he stated that, Revenge were the best band at the NWN fest and even wore a revenge shirt for the gig,we also spoke about James Reads drumming, about how he seems totally intent on destroying his drum kit.Mersus is the dude who should bring back warring drumming for the respect of Australia and quite capable(that's what the last D666 lacked IMO),the dude is probably nearly 7 foot tall and solid as fuck,he also said Ares Kingdom were great live. But anyway i think this band,Revenge, are one of the most hated bands nowadays,i know they are a classic band,is'nt this what happened to Beherit,i remember them in the very early nineties, late eighties,as being the most hated band in the world.
