Best Opeth Song Moment

Demon Of The Fall where Mikael goes from growling to melodic voice. And the guitar playing is just awesome.

April Ethereal is anothe awesome song when it goes, "The tree folded it's branches around meeeee."

I am a My Arms, Your Hearse nut. I hav eevery album except Morningrise, but it is comign in the mail, and should arrive tomorrow.

That riff at about 2.14 in 'The Leper Affinity' just blows me away every time.

The guitar playing in 'Credence' is beautiful

In 'The Amen Corner', where he says "Demon of the Fall"....not sure why, but I love how it's done

The entire last part of 'When', from '...and I cried'

Chorus of 'The Drapery Falls'

I only have MAYH and BWP, and I guess those are my favourite parts, at the moment at least. My favourite bits change with every listen though...

for me their best moment WAS when that great electrif riff in "face of melinda" comes crashing in. unfortunately i've heard that song so often by now that i get bored listening to it. that's such a pain in the ass: no matter how good a song is, you'll get bored by it if you only hear it often enough

Forcing myself to choose just one moment is like trying to masturbate with my left hand. Nice but frustrating.

I nominate the following moments for total awesomeness, one from each album is fair I guess (okay two from Still Life since that album owns my soul).

From Orchid I nonimate:

The Twilight is my Robe [05:35 - 06:27]

From Morningrise I nominate:

Black Rose Immortal [00:01 - 20:14] ;)

From My Arms Your Hearse I nominate:

When [The intro and how it is crushed by the opening roar/wall of sound - fucking awesome]

From Still Life I nonimate:

Serenity Painted Death [The chorus]
The Moor [whole thing is just one perfect moment]

From Blackwater Park I nominate:

Dirge for November [The quiet intro, haunting and beautiful]

From Deliverance I nominate:

Deliverance [I love the two acoustic bits in the beginning]

From Damnation I nominate:

Closure [The first minute or so]

From Ghost Reveries I nominate:

Ghost of Perdition [the whole thing - again, one great moment]
(I must humbly add the "they are the trees..." part from Harlequin Forest too)

From Watershed I nominate:

The Lotus Eater [the intro]

8:43 Under The Weeping Moon (Live version is better - orgasmic if you will)
7:34 The Night And The Silent Water
7:28 Black Rose Immortal (love the solo)
6:37 Karma
6:53 The Amen Corner until the acoustic part
Acoustic part in Godhead'd Lament
1.27 Serenity Painted Death
beginning at 5:07 until the solo and the solo in White Cluster
2:13 The Leper Affinity
5:50 The Drapery Falls
6:33 The Funeral Portrait
Second solo in Wreath
8:06 By The Pain I See in Others
To Rid The Disease "There's innocence..."
1:50 The Baying of The Hounds
1:15 The Lotus Eater

and many more...

the ending of burden was amazing - sent shivers down my spine
To pull that off takes skill since Mikael timing doesn't change but the notes get detuned

the ending riff for moonlapse vertigo

both solo's for windowpane

In terms of best song moments - every single acoustic passage written by opeth. [/thread]

All of Coil, particularly when they each sing the "Fields of Sorrow" part. The beautiful acoustic melody mixed with the orchestra in the background gives me chills every time I listen to it.

The first few notes of the solo in Harvest, not the pre-solo melody, but the "drudidraadrudiludidraa".

the intro and main riff in Heir Apparent, the heaviest shit out there.

the fusion/funk part of The Lotus Eater, some may dislike it, I fuckin love it.

the "DEMON, DEMON OF THE FALL" part of Demon of the Fall

The outro of Deliverance, absolutely one of a kind, dare I say revolutionary?

The bass in Face of Melinda+how the entire song is built up, the bass creates the awesome atmosphere of the song, which is kickass over all.

The singing in Burden

There are some truly pointless transistions on Orchid. Can't name one, but the intro on Apostle in triumph is somewhat dull sounding like they tried just too much and went beyond their songwriting abilities back then.
