Black Metal.

neither symphonic bm nor folky bm are bad in theory but they're almost always terrible in practice. kudos to the exceptions which prove that rule, though. i loved the last nokturnal mortum full length and consider it possibly the best of their discog, so i have high hopes for this one.
 
Any qualms one has about folky bm can be dispelled by two albums...

haha no problem. It's a pretty phenomenal album, and, from what I understand, is largely responsible for galvanizing the whole folk black metal scene (it was released in 1995). I'm not saying it's the first folk black metal album, but it's certainly one of the earliest. The fact that it was released in 1995 is interesting too because that's basically the cusp or threshold between the first and second waves of black metal or near it, I would say
