Black Metal.

Get Kenose first.

It's a matter of taste, I think Kenose is DSO's worse album. I expected FAS to be like it but with an even more mainstream approach... thanks god they returned into a more chaotic sound.
The first 2 minutes of "III" is the best part of the album, but that's because it totally sound like SMRC all over again.

I havent listened to the debut from Manegarm in awhile, did last night and I truly think that they are the best viking/folk/black band ever. I think their debut is fucking amazing for a pagan black album and then their latest is an amazing, the best ive heard, for a viking folk album. Am I alone!?

Folkish metal is one of the more hit-or-miss styles for me, but yeah I love the first two Manegarm albums. Not terribly raw in sound, but just edgy enough and with enough black metal tendencies that it's not incredibly bland like some bands in that vein. I heard later material a while ago, but can't remember how I liked it. I just remember it sounding a bit more polished.

Yeah I didnt think most people enjoyed the folky stuff but the early material is just as good imho. They did compile their 2 demos(that are pagan black) into a cd as well so they got 3 cds of that style now, if you are interested.

What do you guys think of Gontyna Kry? Saw 'em on a blog and them checked out their MA and saw that their demo Walowie had some good ratings. I like it so far, any of the albums worth getting? I think it's pretty good BM, really short though, most songs are under 3m which is different for this style of BM(more atmoshperic/pagan I guess)

'welowie' is excellent, if i remember rightly i had another album that was totally uninteresting keyboard marching with barely any metal substance to speak of

I can't really, they have a pretty unique sound. I listened to 'The Mirror of Soul' from the album 'Black Seal' and it's fucking amazing. It's on their myspace on the small player beneath the actual myspace player, go check them out!

Listening now. Really nice atmosphere, kind of reminds me a bit of newer Enslaved. However, I'm not too crazy about the clean vocals.

I just listened to Dark Forest - Aurora Borealis while i was out doing errands, wow this album is quite epic! Reminds me of a blacker Moonsorrow! Good stuff.

How was Woods of Ypres latest effort? I enjoyed Against the Seasons...
