After 16 years of deathlike slumber, Hate Forest is back with a new album called ” Hour Of the Centaur” created and recorded in few days of April 2020. You will not find anything trendy or new here – band’s same unpenetrable dark wall of sound and bottomless maelstrom exclusively.

This is laconic and honest black metal crafted on Old Europe’s eastern frontier, full of disgust to modern pseudo-intellectual, selfie/ Instagram “black metal”.

it’s bizarre how little attention it’s got compared to other inquisition albums. is it ‘cause dagon’s been cancelled or w/e? or is it just shit?

I gave it a cursory listen or two and it seems solid so I'd guess the former.

A huge step down from the last 3 albums IMO. They peaked around Ominous.

Just discovered Sammasch. Not sure what the consensus is around here, but I'm digging them--thought Triangle was great, and now listening to Hearts of No Light. These guys scratch the BAN/Deathspell itch, although they're no match for either. Still good shit though.

I wasnt a huge fan of Triangle. Hearts of No Light seems a big step up, and slightly more accessible, but I've only given it a couple of spins so far.

It's definitely more accessible. I get carried away with pretentious overindulgence sometimes, so Triangle worked me. That being said, the entire third ambient act is a bit much.

As I've listened to more of these guys, I feel like they piece together bits of Arcturus, Batushka, Blut Aus Nord, and Deathspell Omega, but never really come entirely into their own sound. It's pastiche-y in a lot of ways. But I love all those bands, so I'm good with it.

Definitely, this doesn't sound original in the slightest. Everything is out there done by some other band, which is a sort of shame.

I also think they really took at heart Behemoth's The Satanist. Even if it's not entirely apparent, there are many stylistic choices there taken from that album.
