CHICAGO POWERFEST 2008: More Bands & On-Sale Date Announced

Sounds like you'll be missing Friday then?

there is going to have to be someone really great playing. I work nights so I have to take a vacation day if I go so picking shows this early in the year is always a pain for me. I am taking off for Pagan Fest already. I hate taking all my vacation days just for concerts. There is nothing more than I can hope for is 3 days of metal, that would be great, but I dont want to take a day off of work just for one band that is going to play for 40 minutes.

I think Darkane and a few others will already do that!!
I don't understand the appeal to Darkane .. I can't get into them.

Suidakra is okay, but I sure didn't have them on my list of bands that I wanted to see.

Twelfth Gate is okay, but I just think of them as a quality local, festival opener type.

Testament is not a band I have every really been into a lot, so I don't have that huge excitement buit up to see them. I do think they were a real good selection for the fest though. They should bring some people in, and are a high quality act.

I'm not familiar with The Autumn Offering .. heard it's not my thing, but I will at least check them out before ruling them out.

Chaoswave -- not bad from what I can tell, but I can't recall one single person on this board, or the prog power board even mentioning them. I like the stuff on myspace so it could be that these guys will be a nice find for the fest.

What happened to some of the bands that have been mentioned from time to time ... Primordial, Jag Panzer, Nevermore, Mystic Prophecy ... any chance that any of these bands will be a part of the Friday night lineup. I'm hoping for something that I can get really excited about. The Saturday night lineup didn't do that for me.

Primordial would be great for Friday.....damn. I agree....hopefully the next announcement is exciting. there were so many names tossed around a build up that the bands that were announced were not really that interesting to me. I am excited to see Testament again. I cant wait for Suidakra. The others are not my thing. Hopefully the friday announcement is good, there is tons of competition that week.

I think whatever is going on on Friday would have to make a decent transition from Thursday into Saturday, that way there will be some sort of ladder of sorts to climb down from to get to where we will be on Saturday.

Well, if you put forth the effort these guys do in putting this together you would put your own band on the bill too!

plus it saves the $$$$$$$.

Also, why is there a need to have a transition from thursday to saturday. I never got having to have one type of sound each day, a mix is tons better. I still cant wait for Pagan Fest. it is going to be like my Christmas!!!!

I don't mind seeing local bands on this fest as long as they are bands that rarely play out such as the case of Twelfth Gate and (maybe) Ion Vein. I can't blame Rob and Chris for having their bands on the bill either, it's no different than what Lance is doing with Nightmare Fest.
