Controversial Opeth Opinions

3 good Opeth songs > 7 good Metallica's

Because Opeth's standards for a good song are way higher, and Metallica mostly sucks after the black album.

Here's another one: The Black Album is better than Watershed.

This is an interesting one. Both represent a departure from the accustomed heavyness of the respective bands. Both are mostly reviled by the fans of the older stuff.

Me, I'd rate Watershed higher than the Black Album. The Black Album I feel is more consistent, but doesn't reach the heights that the peaks attained by the high moments of Watershed do. There's nothing mind-blowing like Lotus Eater on TBA.

Most people say Still Life is the best Opeth album but I just cant get into it except for Moonlapse Vertigo. I find the nasally and tingy sound irritating.

@ Nasir Doomsday
Are you fucking outta your mind? >_> Blackwater Park is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
Besides that its a consept album. The songs link to each other like the metal '0' of a chain >.>

Only the 3 tracks I mentioned are indeed amazing on it, in fact Leper Affinity might be my favourite Opeth song atm, but the other ones are way inferior to them (althought I don't say they're bad, just not the top of what Opeth can do) so I can't rate the album along my favourites :(

And I do like Watershed, after all I can just listen to tracks 2-5 (altho Coil isn't bad either, it's just so non-Opeth... But the ending works good with Heir Apparent kicking in).

If Opeth were still doing the style that they were on the first two albums,
Im not sure that i would like them.

while these comparisons are trivial, I disagree. The Unforgiven, for example, is much more "mind-blowing" than anything on Watershed. Also, Metallica are a lot better at constructing a song. A lot of people like the eclectic structures in Opeth, but there's great skill in creating a song that has some sort of symmetry; imo Metallica are masters at this: constructing songs that don't really stray far from conventional songs, but still surprise and sound fresh after all these years.

I can't agree with that =

There 2 totally different music styles, how can you compare? =

to me, Foo Fighters will always be the best live band EVAR :)
my three best live shows were all foo fighters conserts. (my fourth would be one of the Opeth shows).
it's easy to compare them to be honest, genre does not matter very much when it comes to conserts, it's like picking one of two differents programs on TV showing at the same time.
