Controversial Opeth Opinions

Axe played in just one album yet !!! so how the hell could you compare him with Lopez who played on 6 albums, and you could see the development of his playing album after the other !!! Easy on Axe lol

drums on D&D and GR > watershed by miles, but this is without taking who wrote how much/what mike wanted the drums to be like into consideration. axe obviously pwns lopez live.

give me one reason why axe is better than lopez "easily"

In only 1 album axe nailed lopez and, on the other hand, the latter took too long to develop his unique style. (6 albums) Axe has been part of projects way heavier than Opeth, but anyhow he showed them he had the unique groove and touch they needed to move to a higher ground.

Besides, he saved Opeth. He's a fucking Hero.

Coil doesnt do much for me.....also on watershed....the mellow parts in songs are not tht stand out as before......but I still love opeth.....:) .....PEAC EOUT

Axe didn't save Opeth, Gene Hoglan did. Any commercial band can find a decent drummer if someone helps 'em stall for a while.

Axe rapes on The Fathomless Mastery though.

haha ok it's your opinion that I'm retarded. I have the same opinion of you. But rather than posting an unfunny macro, i'll explain my opinion to you.

Watershed is a decent album. I didn't say I don't like Watershed. Most actually share this opinion; only two or three songs on the album are "very good" (Heir Apparent, Hessian Peel, and, barely, Burden). Coil, Hex Omega, and Porcelain Heart are all quite mediocre by Opeth's standards. I would say that Opeth and Metallica are my two favorite metal bands. Thus I measure them by similar standards. So that's three good songs out of seven for Watershed.

This is where my opinion may be dismissed; the proportion of good songs to shit songs is higher for Death Magnetic than Watershed. I can honestly say I enjoy almost all of the songs on Death Magnetic (except Unforgiven III, Broken Beat & Scarred, The Day That Never Comes). Death Magnetic has better riffs, better structures, and is, generally, a lot more coherent than Watershed. I would even say the solos and lyrics are marginally better on DM, but that's not saying much because the solos and lyrics on both of these albums are pretty much shit (except Mike's solos of course). So seven good songs out of ten for DM.

7/10 > 3/7 = Death Magnetic wins...understand now?

+1....not in the sense of the songs...but both these albums are on the same level of not being great and not being bad...I'll tell you this, I listen to Opeth more then Metallica nowadays but I listen to Death Magnetic more frequently then Watershed.

Holy fuck!
Axe rapes without protection on a thorny wooden benchtop on the fathomless mastery.

I had DM on my ipod for about 3 days.. then I removed it.. absolute horrbile album to be honest.

back to topic:

BWP and Watershed are better than all their other albums, together.

to me, Foo Fighters will always be the best live band EVAR :)
my three best live shows were all foo fighters conserts. (my fourth would be one of the Opeth shows).
it's easy to compare them to be honest, genre does not matter very much when it comes to conserts, it's like picking one of two differents programs on TV showing at the same time.

i`ve never been in a FF conncert... and i really hate that..

I`ve seen opeth this year, it was like a dream come true, and yes... they just play live amazing... i think, with muse and radiohead, are the best bands i saw live.

but i expect in this year or the other, go into US to catch a concert of the best band in hisotry, the foos. I´m pretty sure they wont let me down.
