I actually went to a concert in Brooklyn like a month ago that had Obituary and Incantation (plus like 11 other bands) and it had a lot of members from the NYDM club. Most of them told me that in general Incantation is held in the highest regard mainly because Suffacation had a downfall in quality and Morpheus Descends was a band made up of douche bags. Then a nig from Suffocation showed up and opinions shifted a little. However imo, Incantation is better just based on diversity of pace throughout their songs. Not to mention that Incantation has the most devastating sound to ever be recorded.

I agree, which is why I took the time to make a massive list compiling some of the better moments of said scene. :p

Could Nunslaughter, Carnivore, Dream Death be placed into this list or is that a stretch? Even Deteriorot

I did include Nunslaughter actually. There are lots more fringe bands I could have included, but I figured that's enough of an overview of the quality on display as it is.

Yeah, I heard Sauron had a shitty set, forgot about that. A combination of bad stage equipment and too much drinking beforehand, is what my friend told me. But they're a damn good live band normally. Blood Feast wasn't even playing, right? They replaced At War at the last minute or something...which makes me regret missing it even more, but it was my grandfather's surprise 70th birthday party, so I couldn't miss that.

Edit: How can you not know Sorrow? :p Pretty standard Doom/Death.

Yea, well family above everything right? I was shocked to see Blood Feast go on stage, but they were fucking tits. Though I was pretty damn drunk by the time they started their set I was very happy to here some geniune thrash. Some faggots did boo them, but I'm sure they were there just for the hardcore band or Malignancy.

Malignancy are fucking amazing, as are Suffocation. I haven't heard enough of these classic USDM albums to form an opinion on this ranking, but I love Suffocation regardless of where they fall on your lists.

The US death metal scene is much better than people give it credit for.

I think the US death metal scene was good at one point(florida in the early 90's) and than you have Autopsy and Possessed from Cali. I think a lot of bands in the US have crappy influences and a bad perception on what death metal is.

I've yet to see the appeal in most Euro DM, outside of Behemoth and Decapitated though.
Nile, Dying Fetus, and Origin still put out great stuff from the US.
