Death Metal

I need recomendations for old school/early 90's US DM albums.

Albums I like and know about.

Monstrosity `imperial doom.
Disincarnate `dreams of the carrion kind
Autopsy `severed survival,mental funeral
Gutted `bleed for us to live
Accidental Suicide `deceased
Brutality `first two
Morbid Angel `old
Death `old
Possessed `seven churches
Massacre `from beyond
Immolation `dawn of possession
Incantation `onward to golgotha

I think that's it.

revenant - prophecies of a dying world
ripping corpse - dreaming with the dead
baphomet - the dead shall inherit
cabal - midian
nocturnus - the key
morpheus descends - ritual of infinity
order from chaos - stillbirth machine

i'm sure you've heard most of that stuff but still

as for more primitive '80s stuff, obviously there's early sep and master/deathstrike, other must-hears are rigor mortis, incubus, necrophagia, necrovore, terrorizer etc

Resurrected late '80s/early '90s death metal outfit PESTILENCE entered Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark last month to begin recording its new album, "Resurrection Macabre", for a March 16, 2009 release via Holland's Mascot Records. The band recorded a total of 14 songs during the session — 11 new tracks and three classic PESTILENCE cuts (as chosen by the fans) to be included on the limited-edition first pressing: "Out Of The Body", "Chemo Therapy" and "Lost Souls". Joining guitarist/vocalist Patrick Mameli in PESTILENCE's current recording lineup are Tony Choy (ATHEIST, CYNIC) on bass and Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, NON-HUMAN LEVEL) on drums. Patrick has previously described the band's new material as a modern fusion of "Testimony of the Ancients" (1991) and "Spheres" (1993), but even more technical and brutal. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Hangman (Into The Mind Of An Executioner)", "Synthetic Grotesque (Trying To Create Through Cloning)", "Fiend (Drugaddiction)", "Resurrection Macabre (The Return Of The Pestilence)" and "Hate Suicide (Last Hours Of A Suicide-Bomber)".

PESTILENCE has scheduled the following tour dates:

April 09 - Oslo, Norway – Inferno
April 10 – Enschede, Netherlands - Atak
April 13 - Cologne, Germany - Underground
April 16 - Erstfeld, Switzerland - Transilvania Live
April 17 - Munich, Germany – Backstage
April 18 - Pinarella, Italy - Rock Planet
April 19 - Colle Val d'Elsa, Italy - Sonar Club
April 22 - Darmstadt, Germany - Steinbruch Theater
April 23 - Halle, Germany - Easy Schorre
April 24 - Oelnitz, Germany - Schuetznhaus
May 22-24 - Baltimore, MD (USA) - Sonar (Maryland Deathfest)

Footage of drummer Peter Wildoer laying down tracks for "Resurrection Macabre" can be viewed below.

Olivier "Zoltar" Badin of UK's Terrorizer magazine (web site) recently conducted an interview with Patrick Mameli. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Terrorizer: [PESTILENCE's current bassist] Tony Choy played on "Testimony Of The Ancients" (1991) but what about Marco Foddis (drums), Patrick Uterwijk (guitar) or even Martin Van Drunen, who sang and played bass on your first two records?

Patrick: "Marco I haven't talked to in over ten years. But I know he sold his drumkit a long time ago. He's now giving driving lessons and doesn't want to have anything to do with music anymore. On the other hand, Patrick will be present for the concerts but he just came in too late to take part in the album. He hadn't been playing in a long time too and though I know for a fact he's now working his ass off every day to be up to speed; it was impossible for him to be ready on time for the studio. As for Martin Van Drunen, well, let's say it was simply out of question. If we split up with him after our U.S. tour in 1990, it was for good reasons. And there's no chance for us to be working together again, even after all those years. Plus, he's got his HAIL OF BULLETS thing going on so I wish him nothing but the best."

Terrorizer: How did you catch up with Peter Wildoer?

Patrick: "He was recommended by a friend of mine, saying that based on his work he did with DARKANE, he would be the perfect man for the job. And indeed he is. Plus, now thanks to the Internet, you don't have to live in the same country anymore and practice on a frequent basis so even if he's living in Sweden, it wasn't a problem at all."

Poland's Metal Mind Productions re-released the classic debut album from PESTILENCE, "Malleus Malficarum" (1988), on May 19 in Europe (July 8 in the USA via MVD). The limited-edition digipack title (limited to 2,000 copies) was made available on golden disc, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology.

Mameli's C-187 project, which also features Tony Choy, Sean Reinert (drums; CYNIC, ex-DEATH) and Tony Jelencovich (vocals; M.A.N, ex-TRANSPORT LEAGUE, MNEMIC), released its debut album, "Collision", last year via Mascot Records. The CD was recorded at Spacelab Studios in Oedt/Moers (near Düsseldorf), Germany and was mixed by Jacob Hansen.

Hoping they add a date in London

I have a lot more confidence in Asphyx, tbh. However, I find Martin Van Drunen's vocals a little weak on their recent material but that's just me nit-picking, really.

A thing that always makes me laugh about Spheres is when i read the booklet and Mameli dedicates the depressive as hell and disturbing in general song "Aurian Eyes" to his lovely wife Kim.

I do the same thing. I really don't imagine it being a dedication to anyone or anything tbh. Then again, I guess that is all kind of relative. Still, it's funny, especially since it's like a minute long.

I love the bass instrumental Phileas, to be honest i prefer that kind of stuff much more than Tony Choy's style.
Hell i love the whole Spheres album, i think it's very misunderstood, the riffs that come across as uninspired to many are quite the opposite when you get in the trippy mood.
