Does hardcore deserve a place in music?

Hardcore does have a place in music. Some of it is good, and some of it sucks. I used to be really into hardcore/metalcore for a few years, but now I hardly listen to any hardcore at all anymore. There are quite a few hardcore bands that are quite talented and have well written songs, but it isn't my cup of tea.

The Hostage Heart "Where There Is Despair, Hope"
In the same vein as Converge's "You Fail Me", but somewhat more breakdown-oriented. Brutal H/C the way it's supposed to be, straight forward, loud, and screaming till it's throat is bloody.
Psyopus "Ideas Of Reference"
Part Dillinger-inspired tech/jazz/noise, part Botch-inspired musical spasming, and a bit of Zyklon-style brutal blast metal, one of the best and most listenable extreme hardcore releases of the year.

This just reminds me of how bad concert billing is. I remember going to see Mastodon a few months ago. It was Walls of Jericho, then Sworn Enemy, Mastodon, and Fear Factory. The first two sets were full of stupid hardcore kids, then about a third of the crowd left when Mastodon was coming on. I left halfway through Fear Factory. I do think that hardcore dancing is quite funny though. Has anyone seen that Unearth video where at the end there are just like 50 bald, white men doing the whole ninja thing? I just don't get it. It's like, headbanging is a natural reaction to listening to metal, but the whole hardcore thing doesn't make sense to me.

I was at that show. That's not that terrible of a bill. There were some kiddies there, but KsE did put on a pretty good show. I was surprised. There have been much worse combos than that.

A lot of the bands people are saying are good HxC bands I always thought were the good punk bands. I'm confused now.

I think technically I'm straight-edge, because I dont do drugs or drink or anything, but I dont go around telling everyone how straight-edge I am (probably because I don't want to be thought of as "straight-edge," and would rather be thought of just as someone who doesnt do that stuff). If the subject ever comes up, I'll just tell them that I don't do that shit. I don't even call myself straight-edge because I don't want to be associated with those faggots. Im just saying, that by definition, I probably am "straight-edge" due to my dislike of drugs, etc.

Some of you dudes sure do have a hard-on for edge kids. As a straight edge kid myself, I could just as easily make some unflattering observations about metal fans based on what I've seen at various shows.
Whatever. Neither opinion is of any consequence and I'll not follow them further.
The point I really want to raise is that it would be remiss for metal fans to write off the hardcore genre when they're only being exposed to a sub-mainstream bastardized hybrid of metal and hardcore. If you think bands like Converge, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage are hardcore acts, man, think again. Funny thing is, the scene underwent a similar misrepresentation by bad metal in around '00 with bands like Poison The Well and Red Roses For a Blue Lady.

I was talking about ONE HC fag. A big group of them is way different. These kids always travel in groups and gang up on people becasue they don't agree with them. My guess is that most metal fans dont act violent twards hardcore fags unless they start the fight, which is usually the case.blackink said:
