Doom Project! Sunn o))) inspired!

yeah exactly, i started it and just improvised a load of throat singing shit and weird vocals and some sine waves and stuff then i was like "this is too fuckin sparse, must add more" so i add more and all of sudden im all like "this is far too complete"
making into a massive hour long drone epic right now
got some sick earth 2 style guitars going on

I like it,
The feedback is good,
some of the left-side guitars in the beginning are a bit off, they sound kind "Naked" ya know. maybe edit out some of the little bumps and some reverb to smooth it over.

when the whole thing comes in its pretty awesome. :)
great work

Thanks dude. I just mixed the totally raw tracks and sounds together so you could have a listen to hear how its going, I'll start some editing later tonight. I might re-do a few sections if I have the time as well.

Should be good :D

Ok I love how this is turning out.

I must add, I don't think it would be possible for everyone to contribute to every song, I mean the genre itself is pretty minimalistic so I think 6 instruments/layers on all songs might be too much for some songs. The method is still a great way to go, just my thought that some of us will feel a song is complete enough after 3 or so contributions and adding more would be overkill.

Anyways, I guess when it progresses we'll just feel when it's done

I'm downloading everyone else's posts to give a listen

I agree, 6 people might get a bit too much on the more calm songs.

Since it's my turn to work on Joe's super juicy piano drone, I'm thinking a bass just wouldn't fit well into it, maybe I'd add instead some cool synths on top

Also, has anyone heard my track at full? there's some short bass doddling and palm muting I might end up editing out of the piece, I'd like other people's opinions on it to be sure

i made that track 47 minutes long
oops
its fuckin sick
about to get massively massively stoned and have the inaugural listen \m/

Depends what kind of Bass part your thinking of,
I reckon a few long feedback bass notes would be ideal, maybe.

Bear in mind that we'll all have a chance to work on each tune,
I'll certainly be adding some Synth parts.

though, you could add a really deep Sinewave synth bass, that would be sweet.
best of both worlds :headbang:

Or, indeed i could handle that part if you would rather work on the atmospheres.

Do whatever you think will sound good.
You got any specific ideas so far?

and shit, im gonna listen to your track right now. :)

You're right Shane, a deep looong droneing synth bass could do well, I'll try something like that.

I was wondering, If joe's piano was done in a Vsti (I guess it is), it would be awesome If I could be provided with the Midi for the track, just to see clearly the notes played so I could make the bass work with it, cause th enotes are really hard to discern by ear at such depths and distorsion and strange chords haha

Posting it here cause Joe seems to be away on msn, just so it'll be here whenever Joe gets online and sees it

You raise a good point Dan,

Its up to the Song Captain to provide relevant info about the "key" of the track and any other technical information to the people working on that song.

My song is based on a double-stop of A and A#, occasionally adding in other lower notes.

Actually, if your gonna go with a synth bass, maybe a simple triangle or saw wave, filtered down so its almost just a sinewave would be sweet.
or even a Bass Guitar with the tone controls rolled all the way down, just filling in the subs.

im next in line after you :) looking forward to hearing how it works out.

I'm liking your ideas for the bass Shane. Right now I must leave, but tommorrow I'll do my part. I've been trying some vstis, experimenting and such. Joe sent me the midi info, it's all good.

So tommorrow I'm gonna finish my part on this uber piano drone piece.

by the way, is anyone doing drums? I'd like some drums on my piece

i want to find something to make some sort of creaking noise for joe's track
so leave some space in there for some more organic noises ;)

since i took what i made for this earlier and decided to make a solo album out of it (and finished it >_>) i figure i could get started on something more tailored towards this at some point tomorrow. ill probs make a nice bed of deep bassy vocal chants, still wanting to make some really nice minimalist stuff for this as well as pure brutality
so get your pots and pans out :D

awesome Gareth, personally I'm all on filling up the low end, the high end is all yours. I don't think joe's track would benefit from guitars IMO, the piano is the main part of it and should stay that way.

Just an opinion of course, and I can easily be proven wrong

Maybe not full-on guitars but some gentle drones and feedback would be nice,

actually, to elaborate on what you are saying, i think it will be important for each person to exercise restraint and to "underplay" their parts.
remember everyone that there are 6 people contributing to each song,
you don't have to full up the whole track with your instrument, and you don't have to fill up the whole length of the track either :)

yeah
definately
i think all i have planned for my contribution on joe's one is recordings of my stairs creaking and such.

I might add some feedback to Joe's song, I don't think any 8 string riffs or drones will go well with it though :D
