Directions: Rank Incantation's 10 studio albums. Order and number each album 1-10. Ties are OK. Your first place album earns 10 points, your second place album earns 9 points, etc.

Rules:
  • You may rank as few as 6 albums. Lists with less than 6 albums will not be counted.
  • If you list less than 10 albums, the first placed album will still get 10 points, the last placed album will still get 1 point, and the albums in between will have points distributed proportionately. The average points earned for albums that are not listed will not be impacted positively or negatively, so if you don't rank an album, you neither help it or hurt it.
  • If you don't number your list then it will be assumed that it is in ranked order
At the end, the albums will be ranked based on their average number of points per vote.

You have until Tuesday, April 23rd at 4 PM PST to finalize your list, re-familiarize yourself albums you haven’t heard in awhile, familiarize yourself with albums you haven’t heard at all, lobby for any albums you think are underrated, and lobby against any albums you think are overrated.

Onward to Golgotha (1992)
Mortal Throne of Nazarene (1994)
Diabolical Conquest (1998)
The Infernal Storm (2000)
Blasphemy (2002)
Decimate Christendom (2004)
Primordial Domination (2006)
Vanquish in Vengeance (2012)
Dirges of Elysium (2014)
Profane Nexus (2017)

AT FUCKING LAST.

One of the darkest and heaviest metal bands ever, probably the most crushing death metal band in existence. Pillard also remains to me as the most brutal and lntimidating/menacing death metal vocalist of any band, with a voice that's practically inhuman, evoking some of the most twisted and crawling vocipherations from Lovecraft's creatures. Maybe the guy is a Shoggoth disguised as human, who knows.

So, my list goes in this order:

1 - Mortal Throne of Nazarene
2 - Onward To Golgotha

Some of the most perverse, bestial and soulcrushing death metal ever made. The levels of darkness, brutality and sheer intensity forged in these 2 albums are almost incomparable to anything else. Absolute landmarks of any metal genre, immortal monuments of evil and blasphemy towards god's creation. I choose Mortal Throne over Golgotha due some refinement of the first album's style and the fact they covered more territory, making the album far more versatile, yet impossibly effective in its mission, tormenting and utterly destroying the miserable life forms that dared to listen to them.

3 - Diabolical Conquest

Easily the best of the McEntee era, almost rivaling their first 2 albums. The production is stellar for the style and everything is just great. It doesn't reach the heights and abysmal dimensions of the previous albums, but it's an incredible album that deserves to be hailed as a masterpiece as well.

The rest are all from great to very good, with no real average or bad album in my book.

4 - Blasphemy
5 - Decimate Christendom
6 - The Infernal Storm
7 - Primordial Domination
8 - Vanquish in Vengeance
9 - Dirges of Elysium
10 - Profane Nexus

Lastly, I think it's important to mention at least 2 of their EP's:

The Forsaken Mourning of Angelic Anguish . If I could vote for this, it would take number 4.
Blasphemous Cremation. It would be number 5.

Dont need to go over these albums too many times. Pretty confident in my rankings of one of my favorite death metal bands. I'm usually pretty much alone in thinking DC is #1 but oh well, I've always felt that way.

Also lol @ Onwards Towards Golgotha and The Infernal Swarm you fucking dumbass.

1. Diabolical Conquest
2. Mortal Throne of Nazarene
3. Onward to Golgotha
4. Vanquish in Vengeance
5. Primordial Domination
6. Dirges of Elysium
7. The Infernal Storm
8. Decimate Christendom
9. Profane Nexus
10. Blasphemy

Recently I've come to this opinion myself, but I want to re-listen to the first 3 (their best) just to make absolutely sure how I want to rank them. Diabolical Conquest at 1st place is regardless a strong fucking choice.

Well said. Mortal Throne might be favorite favorite death metal album for those very reasons. The sustained heaviness and darkness plus the transitions between slow and fast make it a totally consuming work.

Amazingly consistent discography. One of those bands where there are no bad albums, only certain albums that are stronger than others. The first three are the unholy trinity of the genre, absolute benchmark albums with Mortal Throne being the apex of the artform as far as I'm concerned, epitomizing everything a genre called "Death Metal" should. The sound is so thick, it's almost overwhelming on initial listens. Pretty much any band doing the "cavernous" thing owes their existence to it. And that artwork is still fucking diabolical.

A few years ago I would have ranked Decimate Christendom higher but their last three albums have been so strong they knocked it down a few.

If anyone wants to sell me a non Russian or South American pressed Decimate Christendom, I’ll buy it from you. Having issues finding it outside of Europe.

Actually if you have any Incantation CDs to sell let me know, I purged all my shitty SA presses and it left me with 6 full lengths, not counting vinyl.

Insanely good discography, even their "weakest" album is still a 7/10 for me. First four albums are godly.

2. diabolical conquest
3. onward to golgotha
4. primordial domination
5. dirges of elysium
6. the infernal storm
7. decimate christendom
8. blasphemy

i'm a bit iffy about the order of 4 through 7, might change it before the deadline. haven't heard the other two.
