Well you kind of were degrading it and those who study it, by saying you've ''already learned'' theory by playing guitar and naturally picking up on it, when there are countless numbers of people who study and analyze music theory all day for many years of their lives. I realize it was not your intent to do so though, I think you simply misunderstand just how much one can learn from theory really, far beyond memorizing scale names. Btw I'm not trying to flame here or anything, just trying to make clear the value of music theory. Then again I also do realize that not everyone has the same musical goals or motivation.

You won't get Alexi's tone if you don't have a similar amp. Also you won't be able to get a COMPLETELY identical tone, because lots of tone is in the playing.

But he uses lots of mids and a good deal of highs. Low bass and low/mid amount of gain/drive.

his tone is nothing special anymore, just some emg/marshall combination and you're set, his tone sounds the same as everyone else's. His old tone is harder, but sucks anyway.

mid?
bass?
reverb?
Ive heard his guitar in one of those private lessons and it sounds bloody magnificent! At the moment, my amp doesnt sound that great so I tried playing around with it but I got no where D:

I'd have to agree. I've become very picky with the music I listen to these days. Partly because when I work on composing, I want my source of influence to be drawn from only the songwriters who in my eyes are the best(Symphony X, Sinergy, Galneryus, Koji Kondo, Nightwish, Wintersun, Rhapsody, and various film score/classical composers such as the group X-Ray Dog or Vivaldi/Beethoven). I feel as if the more I listen to a band/composer that is merely ''alright,'' and not godlike, the more the potential of my composing ability sinks down, and I hate that; every time I listen to music I am mentally analyzing chord structures, phrasing, time sigs, key changes, etc and it makes an impact on me in some way or another.
