Guitar Player's Thread

^I could, also usually the bolt-on is bulky. Exception is Ibanez. Very nice all acces jounts. I don't find that such a big problem on a strat anyway  I think still people are sometimes overdoing the "omgz bolt on suckz0rz"

The 81s are alot brighter. The EMG 707 sound is fat and rich. It has way more balls and meat. The sound is also darker on it.

Actually, my guitar is set-thru. I am quite content with it. The Schecter has been great. I will try to stay within that brand quite possibly. Other guitars that interest me from other brands are the ESP NT-7, Ibanez RG1527 White with maple fretboard,Agile Septors with 27" scale.

I think I will put my Ibanez to drop A for a longer time though and get a new amp. If my band proceeds well I will need a backup amp. A used ENGL Fireball is only 700€ but another Randall would be tempting as I am quite content with the tone as it is

Afaik the 707 is essentially a 85 in 7 string form.

And agreed on the overdone hatred for bolt on necks, i've used several bolt ons, a neckthru and a shaved heel(like ibby's) bolt on for years now, and after a hatred period for bolt ons when i fell in love with the neckthru, ive comed back to bolt ons and i love them just as much, they dont really pose that big of a problem, and supposedly add a tiny bit to the tone(according to Paul Gilbert, which' latest ibanez custom has a traditional bolt on neck as opposed to a shaved one)

It seems like how thick the neck and the neck joint is affects the tone more so than if it is bolt-on or neckthru. I don't really know how true this is, but this does seem to be the case with acoustic guitars.

I think this is true. The body vibrates more, if it is more solid.

I just hate those kids who have obsession on neck-thru guitars, when they can't even say the actual reason for that. I mean, at least the beginners won't hear the difference.

You're definitely right, as far as I've ever heard. Same goes for the wood the neck is made out of. It's even more important than the body wood, supposedly, in terms of the tone.

The only real difference, aside from how it physical feels around your hand at the actual joint, is that bolt ons have more of a bite and clarity. A more distinct upper end to the tone.

I'm getting a Shecter C-7 on Christmas, and depending on how similar the EMGs it has sound to my 81 on the RR I may swap them out. If I do it's gonna be the Petrucci ones. I thought his tone would be mostly amp (and it does do a great deal), but the basic thing I love from it was too in the vid from that tester guy, so if I'm to change pickups I already know what my choice is gonna be :) Are they active or passive btw? My bad if it's easy to find, but I haven't come across that info.

They're definitely passive. And that's a cool guitar, nice choice. I like the Loomis, too.

I like Loomis too, but normal C-7 is great too and you can find b-stock ones easily. A friend of mine recently got a C-1 with Floyd for 450€ included shipping and everything. New goes for around 800€.

Does that already exist or did they just show it in a fair and that's about it?

About the Fireball, if you do get it then FFS that goes as main head and Randall as backup. Engls are sick!

Thanks about the p-ups info though :)

How's that?

I bet you can't hear or feel the difference, if you were blindfolded.

IMO it's the access to the upper frets. I have a neck-thru guitar and a bolt-on guitar, and I really prefer soloing on the neck-thru because of that. I think it's a matter of preference.

It's true that Ibanez have kinda eleminated the issue with their bolt-on neck joints... but my strat replica's neck joint still sucks. I don't like my boyfriend's Jackson either, partly because of that. He also has a Godin LGXT that I don't really like much either, because I don't find it comfortable to play.

I know it's an expensive guitar, but it really isn't that good imo.

Anyway, I'm not saying bolt-ons suck for no reason, I'm saying they suck because I tried both bolt-on and neck-thru guitars and I really prefer neck-thru guitars.

I'm not saying I will never buy a bolt-on again though, it's just I really don't like them as much as neck-thru, or maybe set-thru guitars.

Actually, that was a poor choice of words on my part. As much as I love guitar, I wouldn't really describe them that way. And while a guitar can certainly be what I would call beautiful, it's the music that comes from them that I really value. And that of course comes from the person playing them (or oneself), rather than the guitar, in the truest sense.

Yeah, I will put that in front then. I was just saying I am really content with my Randalls tone and It has handled the live stuff very well. I do not however see it "built-as-a-tank" kinda case:lol: I am expecting the day It will shutdown and I will stand there with a "nigga please!" face.

And the RG1527 already exists in white with maple FB that I meant :) It looks delicious! I always had a thing for white guitars with maple fretboards.

Oh, ok.

I had Jackson which had bolt-on-neck, and I found no problem in playing upper frets. But I'll guess it's about one's taste.

:erk:

I hate people who think guitars are sexy. Do you have sexual interest in other instruments also?
+1

Jackson bolt-ons are not that bad. I got the Ibanez MTM2 which is bolt-on. I love it!

Yeah, this could well be true. I kinda prefer thicker necks and rounder because It automaticly feels as If i get a more solid sound out of it. I have no idea if this is true though!

^^Agreed. Ibanez make awesome guitars, and the Prestige models are just awesome.

I really want a Taylor T5. They're so sexy.

Indeed a realñy nice guitar, but I sense huge price, amirte?

Even if you don't like them, you can't say bolt-ons suck in general. As much as I hate e.g. Jackson bolt-ons, Ibanez or Caparison bolt-ons are fucking amazing, nothing to loose in front of a good neck-thru.

And the RG1527 already exists in white with maple FB that I meant :) It looks delicious! I always had a thing for white guitars with maple fretboards.

I have seen pics and all too, but I can't find it anywhere, and it's not featured in Ibanez's site. I agree that it's sweet though.

The MTM2 bolt on (as all Ibanez bolt-ons) is indeed pretty good, but you can't tell me you really like the bolt on e.g. the Jackson JS or MX series. They're the bulkiest most uncomfortable thing I've ever tried. And I own an Academy strat copy.
