Guitar Player's Thread

I've always wondered if it'd be cool to own one of those guitars with 27 frets, thats why this weekend i'm gonna go try one out, maybe buy it. I've heard from two different crowds that it can be both an improvement and hinderance. Idk, i think caparison is the best way to go with this, and that's what i'm in the market for.....Any thoughts on the 27 fret idea?

*shrugs* I advocate more frets for more range, anything above 30 is too much though, 27 is fine, but unless you arent gonna use them regularly i dont really see the need for them

Epica??? Have to check it out, I always thought guitar work is kinda the weak part for Epica :p
Yes well they have got a new guitarist now, a former member of the Dutch death metal band God Dethroned. More solo's and stuff, awesome.
Of course the guitar has a much lower status in the band when you compare it to guitars in Bodom for instance but it's still awesome.

My old band opened for Epica once. They were kind of boring but I wanted to bone the singer like it was nobody's business

FUCK THE NEW EPICA IS AWESOME!
AWESOME GUITAR WORK

This. Best album of the year thus far imo, the guitar work is 10x their old stuff, mainly thanks to a new guitarist and a drummer who actually like to play heavier stuff.

Epica sound nothing like Nightwish, BH. lol.

Seeing as I kinda made a mistake with the blackout (you can flame me all you want), i'm on the lookout for a new pickup.

What I want is an OK clean sound, and for distortion, I want a crunchy mid tone, with a pile of low end to make chugging awesome.

Suggestions, videos?

It will be hard to be versatile with only a bridge pickup (whereas you could otherwise let the neck pickup cover the clean tones) but you're best bet is to definitely go for a passive pickup. Which is obviously pretty broad, but my suggestion is to check out the Evo 2 or Tone Zone.

Evo 2

and the Tone Zone

Lowberg also has a Tone Zone in the bridge of at least one of his guitars if I remember correctly.

You might also want to try the Seymour Duncan JB

Those were unfortunately the best videos I could find, hope they helped though. Here's one other one that I found interesting.
