you wanna put a rack mount unit on a combo amp? On another note, i broke down and bought Systematic Chaos yesterday. the instrumentals really kick ass, and there are a few good numbers on it (Forsaken, Constant Motion), however the whole thing just fucking dragggggs. And the fuck off metal-rap lyrics on Dark Eternal Night really piss me off too
. I never really liked DT before, but I'm trying to get more into JP (again), however I wasn't too wholly impressed with the songwriting on this album tbh.

My fav cd of theirs is Scenes From A Memory, or Images And Words. I also like Change Of Seasons. They are definitely not for everyone though.

Anyone have advice for writing riffs and rhythm playing in general? I've focused way too much on lead playing and I've found I can't come up with any cool, heavy riffs. Any advice? Seriously, I'm in dire need of some musical balls.

give them a go,they're good.have you listened to Train Of Thought?is suposed to be their ''heavy'' album,meaning that,in Mike Portnoy's words,it was an album composed to be ''a balls to the wall album from start to end''.even though,Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulance is great too(The Glass Prision is fucking epic),but please don't star with the title-track.is an insane over 40 minutes track if I remember right,

Scenes From A Memory is simply EXCELLENT cd.
Change Of Seasons well just the song it self
those albums are the true power of this bend in my opinion.
plus Liquid Tension1,2 CDs is simply instrumental stuff where they showoff
insane abilitys of writing and playing
the idea of this album was to come together and in 1-2 days finish one song (composing, rehearsing, recording)
Train Of Thought well i wouldn't recommend to listen to it if you are not in to DT already because its kind of failed CD they try to be heavy and they are not. yet they are prog.

Awake the most bassy album maybe though not something special like the first 3 cds in the list.
When Dream And Day Unite its their first album. its chaos and rocky but nice any way.
Octavarium well its good album but not one of their best.
