Yep. Your point is? If this wasn't an extremely useful piece of equipment, I wouldn't have used it everyday for like 3 years instead of getting something better.

Great sound AND great tone. I'm really impressed by that and by your technique. It sounds like you had improved your picking in the past weeks, could that be true? Why don't you record a CoB-Song and show all these wannabes what it should sound like?

My picking getting better? I still haven't practised since the forum jam. But I was going to record a little bit of SNBN as a tone test and a bunch of other intros but I decided against it.

I should have my bank card back by Tuesday so if you've got the info then, it'll be that day. I lost it over the weekend.

I don't know how hard it is to dial in a good lead sound on the KORG that Mitch has, but judging from all of his recordings, it's deffinetly the sound i'm looking for while recording. That sound is better than alot of professional recordings.

A lead tone? I find that really easy. I've always been proud of what this thing can give me in terms of that but it's just rhythm I always had a problem with. Now, I've found some cool settings that cut back on the "fuzzyness" and give me a real dry crunch like you can hear on my recording of "Wake Up In Hell".

I can't stand Multieffects...The nearest a mutieffect unit i woud go would be the boss me-20 but i doubt i'll buy it. I like to keep my stuff simple and i want to record somethin id much rather buy a toneport and put a mic in front of my cabinet and record or then just put the mic straight into soundcard and record. When playing with band,jamming for myself i always get my Clean tone and Overdrive tone directly from the Randall head...Its got all the distortion i need which pleases me very much. I hate hassling with pedals so as close to other effects i would go is to make a own rack or something but NOTHING with steenkin' pedals,stompbox units,multieffects. This is all MY OPINION so dont get worked up of it

In most cases it can be even more difficult to get a great sound out of a MultiFX...or not in most cases but in many. For those who dont have a great amp then it is a choice to have a multiFX.

The pod is pretty much the opposite. I don't know if you saw the small tonetest i posted, but that's pretty much what i was after, so i was satisfied with it. Lead on the other hand, doesn't sound too good.

I don't know what kind of a randall you have, but I have an engl powerball and I NEVER use it to record. Tube-Stacks have to be very loud to sound how they should. And no, a dynamic microphone is not always better than dealing with multifx.

99,99999% of the homerecorded things with fx/plugins sound better than miced amps, because the people don't know anything about how to setup mics.

Here are some recordings of a guy from a german forum. He plugs his guitar straight into his soundcard. The guitarsound is made with freeware plugins:

So, IMO: If you are very good at the whole recording, mixing stuff, and you have the right equipment, than use a mic. For every other musician, FX and Plugins are the way to go.

That's exactly what i said. Even some professionals can't get a good tone of a mic'ed 2000$ amp.

That's a very good rhythm tone for sure. I'd be interested in going in the direction of plugins if knew what I was doing.

Sounds like he's using DKFH for the drums though so that automatically makes stuff sound better than any of this GP4/soundfont stuff that I'm using. I downloaded 2 DKFH torrents and installed them and I've got the samples but nothing happened so I don't actually know how to open it and see the on-screen drumkit...very annoying.

I'll have to look into that, I've never been totally satisfied with any of the drum tones in my recordings unless I was using a proper backing track from a decent CD or something.

I'm satisfied at the moment. I' ve downloaded eZDrummer with the Metal Expansion, it's the forerunner of the DKFH, as far as I know.

The eZDrummer has all the "typical" Metal grooves and some special ones. So I take them and customize the rhythm in my sequencer. I could record and upload an example, if anyone's interested.

i think that he's using his normal practice amp which is a fender twin reverb and either an Ibanez TS or his signature T-Rex pedal. I love that tone aswell.

Thanks . By the way, seeing as Mitch's tone was great, I thought that I'd maybe consider buying the Korg PX4.. I have a big amp, that has many effects but isn't worth ****! It looked great at first, but it is pretty limited.

What i love about Guitar Pro + fruity loops is that it's probably the easiest way to make the drums exactly how you want them, although at the expense of sound quality.

Yeah well i guess youre right I admit that i exaggurated a bit Well it depends as you said on the mixing and shit. Yeah and it also depends on what kinda Multi FX you have. I would love to have a good recording tone but i just aint bothered to find one just yet we will see if the band makes a demo and if we do ill have some of the band teach me some shit how to get good tone but i absolutely didnt get anykinda tone when i last time tried to record somethin but thats because i dont know how to mix at all and last time i tried i playd everything horribly unclean. So yeah i admit myself mistaken

I used to use the basic soundcard so a few of them were done with one but I now have a better one suited for music/gaming/entertainment.

Yeah me too. I could create a full BT for a 28min song in like 1min but as you say, it doesn't always sound like you want.

I might try looking around for some different soundfonts later.

Oh, what soundcard do you have now? And how noticeable was the difference after you've upgraded it?

Can you tell which of your clips are with the basic soundcard and which with the new one?

I dno what it is now, my friend that built the PC chose all the parts for me.

The Passage To The Reaper thing was my old soundcard for sure. I also think "Chapter Four 4", "Wrath Within" and "Composition Metal" were.

Some new ones are like both the forum jams, "Metallica The New Song", "I Like Rock", "4 Gtr Solos in F#" etc.

The PX4 is like the size of your hand, real small. I was even offered a wireless thing to go with it so I could leave it upstairs and walk around the house playing and not even be attatched but I didn't take it 'cause I didn't think I'd use it.
