Just learn the major and minor scales and listen to how your favorite guitarists use them in solos or look into tabs.

I have playd 1 and ½ years and i still suck at tabbing...only way i can figure out how something is played is possibly watching some live performance and then look and listen Yeah i know its pain in the ass. I actually figured out Children of bodom intro by ear not rly hard tho
