Guitar Player's Thread

Im bored with myself now. I think im gonna go out and buy some 12-54 or 56 strings and put my guitar into fucking drop b just so see how it feels

but not as gay as hijacking 5 pages of this thread just to grind on which overdrive/distortion pedal to get ;)

Seriously that was only 2! And btw you said Overdrives are worthless like distortion pedals and cover up your tone. Which is complete bollocks. It more compliments the tone

But i do admit that was kinda gay....BUT IT WAS ATLEAST ON TOPIC! So you fail:lol:

I present to you: The incredible Guthrie Govan! (sorry, not Alexi Laiho )

Not the most impressive clips of him, but damn I love his style.
How awesome is that background on the stage?!! :kickass:
And he has some really good grooves. But I can't properly watch these vids cuz they keep stopping, I'll check him out more on jootube.

Steve Vai - "Naked Tracks"

Naked Tracks Vol. 1-5, is a series of recording packages that contain mixes of Steve’s songs without the lead guitars. They are offered as “play along tracks.” Included are select backing tracks from Passion and Warfare, Sex & Religion, Alien Love Secrets, Fire Garden, The Ultra Zone, Alive In An Ultra World, Real Illusions: Reflections and others.

Steve comments on the package: “Through the years, whenever I would mix my records I would usually do a mix of specific songs without the lead guitar. This allowed me to play along with the track or make loops to jam to, and because I figured perhaps someday maybe others would like to do the same. Voila! We have arrived at someday.

“Playing to these naked tracks, or creating loops of various sections, to endlessly meander over, is a phenomenal way to discover unique musical ideas from within yourself.

“When we are playing an instrument and our mind enters that exclusive elusive mental real estate of our own personal muse, it can result in a form of musical meditation.

“This series of play-along CDs is designed to help create an atmosphere of focus so you can shred yourself into a personally-induced inspirational nirvana.

“For the most part, the tracks in this series are presented in their original form with the lead guitar removed. In some cases I looped the solo sections to give you an opportunity to stretch out. I suggest you import these files into a sequencer program of sorts, (ProTools, Band, etc.) and create loops of various parts of the songs to jam over. It’s an excellent way to develop your inner musical ear.

“All 5 disks will be offered together in one package at various retail stores, through Vai.com, or can be downloaded by various tracks or volumes at any of the online digital stores (such as the iTunes Music Store.)”

Keep checking Vai.com in the coming weeks for the Naked Tracks mini-site with information about each track, as well as links to download the tracks, or order the 5-CD package...

Pics of my modified s540

I didn't bother to turn it around, so either you will have to turn your head 90 degrees, or your computer. Or you can just look at it

This one is straight, so you won't have to turn your head or your computer. But you can do it anyways, if you like.

And then again a mindfucking picture!

As you can see, I installed the infamous (or not so infamous) wedgie pick holders - they work really nice when playing and throwing/loosing a pic - and it's fashionable.

It also goes well with the orange Tortex .60 mm pick, wich I have fallen in love with recently - clear notes, cool picking sound (especially on the lower strings) andsounds fucking ace with chords too.
Oh yeah, and Paul Gilbert uses it too, wich adds an infinite amount of win to the overall coolness of it.

Also, the last 4 frets are semi scalloped (scalloped around the e and the B!!1 string) - but I forgot to take a pic of that.

I considered getting some white p-up covers for the humbuckers, but the only place I can find them I'll either have to pay with a check (no way) or with paypal - and I don't have paypal (I'm 15)

Just got the Jackson today. I like the EMGs more than the Blackouts, I think they sound alot more fuller, alot heavier/thicker. Maybe it's the different wood types but whatever. Both guitars are amazing

I like the yellow better :p

Have you ever tried doing the 18v mod?

It should sound awesome. I think I'm gonna try it on my black ibanez with the EMGs I have lying around.

Then again, if you like the EMG sound per se - keep it that way.

I have been interested in the 18v mod for ages but haven't owned a guitar with emgs for long enough to try it. I read that it doesn't add much to the EMG 707 so no point in trying I guess. But yeah, I love how it sounds as it is so I will keep it that way

Well okay, I suppose you could try it with the Seymours too, no?
