Here's a new thread.

I buy maybe 1-2 gifts tops and tell the rest of them "I don't celebrate pedestrian holidays" but this year I'll actually be broke so yay.

I always buy my mom, dad, grandma, sister, and my lady friend Christmas gifts. The guys on this board are so full of shit. Hurrr don't buy Christmas presents, make anyone you're going out with pay half... You fuckers are scumbags. ;)

I have to start shopping early, because I have a good relationship with my step-family, so I have to get 10 gifts, 11 if I'm seeing someone, and 14 if I want to get some for my bandmates (which I should, because we've gotten mad close this year).

Get them Iowa State merch.

I'd have to drive out to Ames for that. Haha. And I'd get brutally murdered for possessing any of it within 50 miles of Iowa City.

My usual plan is to ask my sister what I should get my nephews. Oftentimes she already has something on a wish-list (usually an expensive toy from Toys 'R Us that's at least double my price range).

Then I ask my mother what I should get my sister, and I ask my father what I should get my mother.

I'll probably get my father some fancy craft beer.

As for my girlfriend, my gut is to buy her MDF ticket, but that would be a bit extreme considering how much a 4-day pass goes for.

Since I actually can afford it this year, I'm gonna get my family presents. I have no clue what to get them, though. I think I'll just get everyone some really good chocolate.

How is buying someone an MDF ticket extreme? My best friend bought mine last year for Christmas.

This time of the year, I'm really thankful I didn't get to know my half brothers/sisters. Having 5 siblings to shop for is much better than 12.

The 4-day pass will be as much as $200. That's a lot to spend on a partner of scarcely a year for just one occasion. Though that does get me thinking. Our one-year anniversary will be three days after Christmas. I could buy it as a combined Christmas/Anniversary gift.

Thank you for assisting my philosophically questionable quantification of romantic etiquette.

Buying gifts for kids is actually fun, so I look forward to getting stuff for my niece and nephews but god I hate shopping for adults. Especially men. With most women you can always cop out with something pretty.

I'm no dating expert, but couldn't you find something more meaningful (and cheaper) to give her, Zeph? I'm not saying an MDF ticket is a bad gift (I'd love to go to MDF), but it doesn't seem like something that took much thought or effort on your behalf.

Does she actually like metal? Cuz if she doesn't that's a terribly lame gift. Yeah it's expensive, but it's your thing, not hers. (But if she does like metal, then that's an awesome gift!)

I know Library Girl and I know how much she actually enjoyed MDF last year and she will be very pleased with that gift, unless she's been hinting that she want a fucking diamond ring or something like that.

Who are you talking to, Aristotle?

These people.

A fair point, but I will probably take her out to dinner and give it to her in a card.

She's planning on going regardless of who buys the ticket.

OK, if she enjoyed it last year then I'd say it's a great gift and don't worry about the money and what you're "supposed to spend", as long as you can afford it.

Thanks, mate! I expect to get most of a ticket's-worth in Christmas money from my relatives, so I can definitely shell it out.

My hot sauce of choice.

too bad there may be a lull in Sriracha production due to people complaining about the smells coming from the factory (which is located not far from where I live...about 10 miles)
