This is truly the immortal question:headbang:
for me it was i think around a year and a half ago a kid i know from school lent me Valley Of The Damned. I'd listen to it for HOURS on end (no joke :)) so then i got the other 2 DragonForce CDs and started using encyclopedia metallum to find more power metal bands like Cellador and Power Quest and even Fairyland.

And my taste just branched there to Maiden, Cannibal Corpse, the severly underated Axxis and all sorts of other bands
it's take ages to list them all =)

I saw Metallica's "... and Justice For All" tape at a record store and thought the cover looked cool so i bought it.

Changed my life forever. :)

I was listening to Metallica before I was really into metal.

Blind Guardian's Tales From the Twilight World got me into power metal (although it's more of a speed metal album).

Borknagar's Quintessence got me into extreme metal.

My dad always listened to Metallica... Metallica got me listening to Megadeth and Slayer, Slayer got me listening to things like Children of Bodom and Bloodbath... and it was a downward spiral from there.

About 10 years ago I heard Metallica's Master Of Puppets, I was hooked. I started buying thrash albums like a madman and downloading music from other genres. I gradually got into death metal by listening to bands like Death and Atrocity. Never looked back ever since :D

I went to kindergarten/day-care (whatever you call it) with John Norums brothers son. He introduced me to Europe when we were like 5 or 6 years old probably. Then growing up Gns n' Roses were huge and I got into them when I was 9 or 10. Since then other stuff followed naturally from that. AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax and Alice in Chains.

First band listened : I heard Blitzkrieg bop' performed by Rob Zombie (from 'The Ramones') in a TV series : 'Space: Above and Beyond' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112173/), after that I listen 'Rob Zombie' for a while

few time after, I heard speak about 'Antichrist Superstar' (from 'Marilyn Manson') It stay for me a great album... (note like the fucking 'Eat Me, Drink Me' album)

And when I discover 'Metallica', I was like a big black hole, I asked to each friend and brothers of ex-girlfriends to share with me their albums of Metal... but no many people listen metal music!
It's not easy in France to listen metal, because French prefer sucking hip hop and rnb!

now internet has came...
