How does one "go out of their way" to avoid a genre?Simply put, if the music sounds bland or is poorly executed I don't listen to it. Also, I hate whining. I don't go out of my way to avoid any specific genres.

Anyway, I enjoy at least something from every style of metal, new and old, classic and modern, "good" and "bad". I listen to whatever the hell I want, and listen to it whenever I want. Sometimes I'll be in a black metal mood, sometimes in a power metal mood (the early incarnations or the modern Euro-flower stuff), sometimes in a classic thrash mood or in a modern "futuristic"/groove/etc. metal mood. I realize my taste could be considered unfocused or whatever but don't really care.
You can laugh at it all you want, but even you know there's truth in those words.

The whole concept of "real metal" is fucking stupid. Slipknot is metal, they're just an oft maligned subgenre that many people hate.

Basically, the more genres being fused and instruments being played at the same time, the more I like it
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
My taste spans most of the main metal genres. I even like a little 90's hardcore. I favor Thrash and Progish Death Metal. I avoid the following sub-genres almost entirely:
