We're planning to debut on the next Battle of the Bands, so we're pushing ourselves to write alot of original material by that time. Seeing as the main songwriters (myself and the singer/guitarist) spend 4 hours a day at the very least playing guitar, im hoping it wont be a problem.

How bout you?
Um... we've played a few small shit gigs so far, although we're starting to get places... playing up in ACT and NSW in December. Sludge isn't really something I'm into much, a couple of mates decided to start a band and needed a bass player (which I supposedly am), and I needed the experience. :)

I play in two bands and neither of them sound anything like Opeth :)

Stone the fucking crows, I've got a list of bands sitting here on my desk which I've been meaning to check out, and one of them is Waylander. :) (And for some reason I can't remember, I've got an arrow from Waylander pointing to Geasa, and an arrow from that to Heol Telwen...) What better time than now to go look eh? Hehe... so far the only Irish band I've seen/heard is Abaddon Incarnate. They were nuts.

I'm in 2 bands, and I have a project with some friends, more of a recording kinda project than a band thing. One band is a funk-metal band, kinda technical. The other is a death metal band in the vain of Bloodbath. And the project I'm working on is heavily Opeth influenced, but we do have alot of piano and strings, but also alot of acoustics, and very long drawn-out songs.

i'm in a band... we don't really have an opeth-type sound, but i, being the guitar player, bring a lot of opeth-influenced music to the band. we just got a new vocalist/guitarist, so things will be changing soon.

I've been in a band for about 4 years now called Clad In Darkness. The main songwriters (me and the other guitarist) are big Opeth fans and it has been said that you can hear the Opeth influence in our music, but it's more black metal than anything. We do have the clean/distorted dynamics and the long songs though. Visit our site from the link in my signature.

I've been singing in a band for about a year now, and I've only realy just discovered Opeth through our guitarist. Since the discovery, the music has leaned towards Opeth in many manners, but is still a far cry from it, leaving enough of our own musical idea's to keep it original.

Yeah, i'm kinda in a band - we've jammed three times but so far it's just me and the guitarist, but we got a drummer lined up for our next jam. There's no real influence of Opeth yet, since the songs were written the guitarist who hasn't heard much of them, but there are certain similarities.

Do you mean you'll be playing at the coming battle of the bands on Nov 1st? I have a couple of friends in one of the bands that are playing there and i'll be there myself.
In any case, what's the name of your band? Sorry if i missed it somewhere.

I guess I am "kind of" in a band.

Its called Requiem Aeternam and was started by Martin Lopez, Martin Mendez and Jose Romero in Uruguay. This band has released an album called "Eternally Dying" and now we're heading to the studio to record the second album this December. Probably the only similarity to Opeth is the use of contrasts between heavy/clean. The heavy is mostly melodic black metal with few death metal influences, the clean is .... hmm...

I'm also working on another project in the spare time, but theres nothing to mention about it yet, really.

sf.

I was in a band when I was 15. It was a 4 piece band which consisted of a vocalist, a guitarist/drummer, a keyboard player(me) and a bassist. The band lasted 6 months and was influenced by Metallica and Green Day, it sounded like Melodic Pop Punk Thrash. I wrote most of the guitar riffs/tunes and we shared lyric writing between us all. The band split because we just all lost contact and developed new friendship groups.

There is a battle of the bands on Nov 1st? I know about the regional finals which are happening this Saturday... my mates' band Legion is performing there and I'm gonna go to push em through all the way.

My band is called Affinity, and we're aiming for a gig debut next year at the least.

As i understand it there were different heats for groups of bands in different areas and the winners (two from each heat i believe) make it through to the final on Nov 1st. I could be wrong though. Alls i know is my friends' band, Moredhel, made it through their heat and they're now playing Nov 1st in what i believe to be the grand final.
Good luck to your mates band and who knows maybe i'll see you Nov 1st (although i won't know if i do lol)

Scrap everything i just said, i won't edit it coz people have already read it and stuff.
Anyway, i've just been talking to somebody and they said there are different finals for different reagions and whoever wins those grand finals goes on with the bands from the other regions.
Sorry for my screw up.

I'm in a death metal band called Vordak. We're not straight-up death, though (although you can't tell from our mp3.com demo songs. We recorded them both in a day, and did our shortest, "deathyist" songs). We have a lot of black and doom influences (moreso doom on our newer material).

Then, I also jam with the drummer of Vordak and another guy who plays piano. It's not metal at all. It's hard to describe, but it's like if Empyrium or Kveldssanger-era Ulver had a pianist with a slight jazz influence.
