In the sake of fairness

Nothing says "metal noob" quite like hating Slayer, not having listened to Bathory, and thinking everybody loves DragonForce.

Does being a metalhead automatically mean I have to listen to the exact same bands as every other metalhead? Slayer just doesn't appeal to me like some other thrash bands do. That everybody loves DragonForce part was a joke, and I will try and look into Bathory.

And yeah, X Japan is awesome, but I doubt a lot of people here will agree.

There is no band anyone "has to" like in order to be a metalhead. But if there were such a band, it would be something like Black Sabbath or Slayer. Bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden might not appeal to those that stick to the more extreme end of the spectrum, while bands like Bathory might not appeal to those that are into strictly trad/power/thrash.

And the other half don't, which is still a lot. So if there were a band everyone could agree upon, it wouldn't be a power metal band. I don't hate power metal, I even own a few power metal CDs that I bought used a few years ago. But I really have to be in the right mood in order to enjoy a power metal album. And I rarely am.

I'm not strictly into any form of metal. Actually, I'm not strictly into metal either. I'm pretty open-minded. I just don't like certain bands, and Slayer is one of them.

A band that everyone here could enjoy should fall somewhere in between several subgenres.

How about X Japan? Surely we can all respect them?

They had a music video on the Saw IV dvd so I watched it. It was actually probably worse than Saw IV, which is saying alot. Although i'm sure I shouldn't really base my opinions on 1 song.
