This band seems to be getting better with every album, whereas most bands get worse. I have not yet yeard Viva Emptiness (although I just bought it off ebay). If they topped Last Fair Deal Gone Down then they are truly gifted musicians because LFDGD is in my opinion one of the greatest albums ever written. So much emotion, so much feeling in the music. Katatonia are amazing.

Well, they did. The vocals are better. To me, that was the most obvious improvement. The guitar playing is superb as well. The way Anders layers his melodies is great. He can play a melody underneath a riff like no other and it just carries the song along. He is very underrated.

I consider it better, and I'm not the onlt one...

There you will find much more diversity, vocals improvement, f**kin' good lyrics and last but not least: MORE POWER and EMOTIONS...

I think its better than LFDGD, too.
Since Discouraged ones, i missed this monotone sound, this flooding that will always get you to listen the hole album, no need for switching any songs, it was just a growing deprssion, desperation...
And now: With Viva emptiness its back! You listen to songs, but in exception of one or two tracks, it sounds boring...but if you listen on, two, three, four times, you get all these facettes of emotions kept in their music, and the album grows with every listening.

Yeah, Katatonia is no band whose songs one can take out of context...
A few of them are potential top-ten raiders, the majority sounds quite boring...
But the whole album (each one) seems to form a concept, even if band members deny such intentions...

Btw, which time is it when I say 'right' to you Portisfreak :) ;)

I just got done listening to the whole album once through, and even though i don't have a full feel for it, i really, really love it! It's a lot better than LFDGD, but LFDGD is still a kick-ass album. The band just improves more and more with every release. I'm gonna take another listen so i could fully get the experience, but damn what an album!!

They are both excellent albums! I just got Viva in the mail yesterday and I can't stop listening to it. I love it!! It's heavier than LFDGD but it's still totally Katatonia.

like i've said before, all katatonia albums sounds different but still that that underlining katatonia sound. thats why katatonia will never get old in my book :) Viva emptiness kicks ASS, i just need to get my real copy as soon as it is released in the US. You guys who live in Europe are so lucky. This foreign exchange student in my school didnt even know what rap was until she got to america, and i asked her if she was from heaven. Europe = Metal

Spoon..I live in the states too. I just pre-ordered Viva Emptiness from TheEndRecords.com They always get it to you on the European release date..and they are really reasonable prices. I paid $13.50 - no shipping!

13.50 and no shipping? thats less than it costs to go to the store and buy it. I think i'll order my copy now. thanks :)

I don't know how to compare it to LFDGD, it's different. I look back upon it and see some great mellow moments. Viva has some greater heavier moments. to me both albums rule like hell but I still probably favor LFDGD for the overall melody.

pretty fucking weak pickup line.......

I have only heard a few tracks from VE and kinda liked it,but the same happened with LFDGD
I hope it's a good album

I have finally come to the conclusion, that I should treat them as completely different albums, LFDGD is a love affair that is still in honeymoon period still after a year and Viva is like that first Boner you get when you watch porn!

Love them both (they are the only two Katatonia albums I have heard)
I don't know why, but the others haven't really said buy me buy me yet, please convince me otherwise guys!!

I just can't come at below average vocals and soo much I have read about the previous albums pointed out that the vocals were not very accomplished yet, I know Mikael sings on BMD I still need to hear more of that, being an Opeth fanboy and all!!
