Mellow Opeth

Exactly. Opeth did not get decent tours, recognition etc.. until being signed with music for nations about 10 years into their carrer. All of the sudden people appreciate them and bang they get shit they don't even deserve.

Music For Nations was originally a branch from peaceville that was bought by a bigger label or something. Deliverance the bands 6th album is the first time someone really cared to help them get good tours. The band has gotten nothing for so long. I would have went crazy trying that long as a serious artist. I would have quit sooner. A lot of bands estabalish a lot sooner that are not nearly as good.

Yet it does. It's Metallica syndrome. Retroactive influence.

I don't think it's fair to be labeling them with metallica to try proving a point that ghost reveries is not as good or different. "The Grand Conjuration" is questionale but the new album still sounds like opeth. It's in similiar vain to the last 3 albums. I think Ghost Reveries for the most part is great especially harlequin forest.

Metallica changed 100% and start suing everyone etc... Opeth is not on the same page just because they don't exactly sound like they use too.

There are plently of bands that actually do not sound anything like they use to. Opeth still sounds like opeth.

Sentenced,Therion,Amorphis(cough, cough)

The difference with Metallica is that a huge part of why metalheads started hating them is because they "sold out". They started making music they swore they would never make and just started acting like rock stars altogether, while recording questionable music (Load) at best, and atrocious music (St. Anger) at worst.

Opeth haven't done that at all. They haven't compromised their sound or changed their attitude. They've just progressed. I personally like their old output more too, mainly because I dig the folk influences from the older albums much more than the 70's prog influences of the post-BWP albums. But it's a choice that Mikael made. He's a big prog fan and he's going into the direction he wants take the band. I don't see how that warrants any kind of hatred. It's your cup o' tea or it isn't, but I really don't understand how someone can listen to an Opeth album and claim they are untalented musicians.

Metallica has sold out and Opeth has progressed. Bwah, bullshit, both of bands have progressed.
Only idiot doesn´t change his opinions - Winston Churchhill

I don't know who Winston Churchhill is, but he needs to work on his grammar.

And notice how I put "sold out" in quotes. I didn't mean that was necessarily how I feel (I hate the whole "sold out" thing to begin with). But that is the consensus among metalheads. And there is atleast something to be said for it.

They actually sound like a nerdy version of Morbid Angel trying to play like Pink Floyd or Camel.
There you go

are you kidding? First of all, i've never heard anyone play riffs in a similar way to Opeth on anything MAYH-BWP. That riffing style is so completely unique to them.. I've been looking for 7 years now for something similar, and it just doesn't exist. Plus, despite even looking at it in "chunks", look at the whole, the way the songs progress. I've not heard many metal bands, if any, with the abiliy to write songs that flow so well while still retaining contrasts and changes in the "emotion" of the music. Sure, that part might be debatable, but even the detractors know what i'm getting at. I honestly don't understand how anyone can even BEGIN to make an argument against Opeth having a very unique sound.

Flow? What the fuck? Their songs flow for a few minutes and then a horrible transition ruins whatever good the music had going for it.

Sure maybe I shouldn't have said they or Mikael sucked, but that one gapping flaw just makes alot of their stuff a fucking tedius job to listen to.

However, somehow I enjoy Orchid.

I just thought I would point this out:

Actually St. Anger is my favourite Metallica´ album, it expressed the situation in band in that time, with good production (for me).

that is all.

This whole aguement is going to just start going around in circles. It reminds me of an atheist and a christian argueing. No one is going to really going to out-prove the other whether they believe they are right or not..

And about flow.. what someone considers "flow", could very well sound like utter shit to somone else. As said before, I think the flow is kinda disjointed on certain songs on Orchird and Morningrise, but other people think it flows fine, neither of us are right OR wrong. All a matter of taste...
