Metal Vs. Classical

Thats cool man, congrats. Warm Hate, Cold Blood is a great song. Should have played him something off of Transilvanian Hunger though. I'd be curious to see what he thought of that.

I was going to type more last post but got cut off. I don't think its amusing at all that he liked cryptopsy. But it took some fuckin balls to play it for him.

He probably got hooked with the killer intro, and then understood that the rest of the song wasn't brutal just because they didn't have talent and wanted to be "in your face" but because that's what metal is. If he had played something we were suggesting with a lot of classical influence it would have been catering to the professors belief in what type of music is good. I think he probably could have gotten away with almost any of the bands posted, because all of them FAR exceed the expectations of someone opposed to metal. But kudo's for playing cryptopsy because it's DEFINITELY metal, but is mature enough to impress, even if it's not the best. This has been a huge thing for this board. Be proud!

You should let me see your song btw. I'm interested to know what it was like.

Yeah. I'll play him something new every class or so. He was real interested today. I played him some Dimmu Borgir and Black Dahlia Murder. He preferred the former. I described Opeth to him, and he seems intrigued by the idea of mixing folk, jazz, and death metal. I warned him that the vocals would be understandable this time...

He seems to want to know what metal really is. He's not gonna go out and buy a fucking Vital Remains or Amon Amarth disc just cause I played him a few songs, but at least he seems intrigued. He's definitely not the prick everyone made him out to be. He was simply...misinformed.

And I just realized that Clifford Brown kicks ass.

nice to hear Cryptopsy worked, interestingly enough i found that same song on my computer and checked it out. The opening riff is nice but it's too quick into the main riffs, kinda killing how great it was. I love the solo. And it's awesome it got him into metal =D

Oh and it would be cool to hear the music you composed and were going to get a failing grade because it included metal.

Kudos to the dude. Considering how elitist and closeminded you kinda made him out to be, it's cool that he was actually so open-minded as to be receptive to a band like Cryptopsy on first listen. Very very cool.

He wears his emotions on his sleeve.

I had every reason to consider him an elitist and close-minded. He had shown me nothing to the contrary.

I think it was the sheer \m/ of Cryptopsy and the follow-up music that did it.

Well I had presumed that the professor would be more apt at analysing which music is good and which music isn't. I'm not wholly surprised that Cryptopsy impressed him, it was more likely to work than Opeth or Dream Theater. Something like The Chasm would've blown him away though, I would imagine.

You have no knowledge of music theory. You don't even play an instrument, so don't try and like you have some kind of superior knowledge of music. For shame. FOR SHAAAME! [/Abraham Simpson]
