Saying that, for instance, South of Heaven or Ride the Lightning are over rated would seem to make you a foolish youth...

Once again, a simple matter of opinion... There are a few good tracks on Ride the Lightning, and there is nothing special about South of Heaven. They are classics in the overall sense of the word, but they do not do anything for me.

I'm flattered that you prize my opinions (generally), thanks. The "age" argument isn't intended to be an argument, rather humour based on how old I am - I assure you I don't think my arguments are any better just because I'm older than anyone else.

Generally, they're better by simple virtue of me being right

Yeah, I've only heard their newer stuff, like the last two albums. I only said SYL was pseudo-intellectual because of all the reviews I've seen by fucking 15-year olds who say the lyrics supposedly have some hidden meanings or a concept to them. All I know is that "City" should've been named "Shitty" - that would've corrected all misconceptions.

Yeah, I totally agree...metal sucks. All of it. As does music in general. And life. Life sucks. I'd kill myself, but death sucks too. Pretty much everything sucks. I totally agree with you.

This is a thread for overrated albums/bands, but you kinda went overboard in catagorically condemning entire genres of music that you haven't really heard...except nu-metal, which does all suck.

I take issue with you on Bathory, Motorhead, power metal, Emperor, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Sodom, Opeth, Kreator, Death, Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, and Megadeth (saw them the other night and they definitely still kick ass). True, some of these bands are overrated, but they definitely don't suck. Maiden and Priest are definitely overrated, though. Also...Beatles? Come on...

By the way, "ANYTHING PRODUCED IN A COUNTRY WHERE THE MOST WIDELY SPOKEN LANUGAE IS OF THE GERMANIC BRANCH OF INDO-EUROPEAN" isn't exactly overrated...
