I totally love this new direction. I feared they would continue the lesser-inspirationaly-blessed Ghost Reveries road, which I didn't really like much.
But they totally took a new direction!!
It has a kinda medieval like dark evil sound. I LOVE how they integrated those medieval flute-like sounds and stuff in the mellotron.

I guess Peter was the only one in Opeth keeping Mikael sane, 'cause the Lotus Eater is total fucking chaos, and I love it!!

i dont see how opeth are a bad live band. guess they spoil it for you ppl because they dont have a very energetic live presence? normally the lols alone a worth going because of Aakerfeldt being a funny frontman ... dunno, seen them like 11 times or smth and never regreted going
