NFL 2010

Barry Sanders was the best ever tbh.

Last year I watched for Rod Woodson, this year I'll be watching for Dick LeBeau. Of course watching the other inductees is interesting as well. The entire Steelers team is going to be present, which I think was a nice gesture from the organization to allow the team to do that.

Barry Sanders quit though. You can't be a quitter and the best ever. Also, his inconsistency was frustrating as fuck. Maybe if he had had a line etc. etc. But 2 60 yard runs and a bunch of -1 runs aren't really worth it game after game.

Edit: If we don't go purely based on stats, we could sit here and argue about Gale Sayers, Terrell Davis, James Brown, Erik Dickerson, etc.

And a massive offensive line and bruising fullback. But other runners have had those things and not done what he did with it. Especially being as generally slow as he was speed wise. He was quick, not fast.

Sanders was the GOAT of any running back. No question about it. And don't forget about OJ Simpson, Marshall Faulk in his prime, and Walter Payton. Now who is the GOAT of wide receivers?

Barry Sanders retired during his prime, leaving on his own terms and before he could suffer from the inevitable debilitating injury that most running backs seem to experience. I understand why he did it and I kind of feel bad for him to be honest. The Lions were nothing without him. Sadly though, he was still in that oldschool mindset of "you play for one team until you retire", otherwise I'm sure he would have asked for a trade years before he retired so he could win a ring.

FWIW, Walter Payton has my vote for GOAT. And the answer to GOAT for WR is easy: Jerry Rice ldo.

That doesn't change the fact that Emmitt Smif is a fucking retard and needs to retake 6th grade English. Great football player but dumb as a box of Paris Hiltons.

Moss was superior to Rice in pure skill. Rice put himself over the top with work ethic and consistency. Kind of like Smith vs other great RBs.

Ok, along these lines, NFL.com has a poll asking which players career yardage record will last longer. Right now Rice is winning with 70%, but clearly anyone who would vote for Rice hasn't paid attention to the RB trends in the last 5-10 years.

RBs get discarded after an average of five years or so, and even the ones who last longer start wearing out much sooner than RBs used to, thanks to the increase in size, speed, and strength of NFL players, and the collisions.

WRs on the other hand, do not take the same punishment, and the rules have been getting altered to encourage passing by protecting not only recievers but QBs. No more jamming off the line like before, no hits on defensless recievers, etc.

Yeah, Rice's will be broken probably within the next few decades, Smith's won't be broken until the inevitable switch back to a more run based game which could take a long time.

I thought LT had the greatest chance to do it, but apparently he has run out of gas way short of the mark, and his team was nearly as good for the duration of his career in San Diego as the 90s Cowboys were.
