Wow, Mort Thank you. I watched that entire thing. I used to love that game when I was a kid. I used to play it all the time, though I never finished it. I was only like 6 years old and all the back tracking and shit would get me lost.

I love everything about that game. The sound is great too. The game just has a great feeling/atmosphere. The no levels/stages/one big world thing was also amazing at the time. Very awesome.

Haha yeah, I sat there for the whole 60 minutes it was going staring like O______________O. That is probably the game I would give most important game to have ever gotten into my life.

It isn't my favorite, but it certainly is the reason why I hold Metroid to be the greatest game series of all time.

Is that your first speedrun or something?

I've never played Super Metroid (though after seeing it I kind of want to), but I think there are much cooler speedruns out there. Try finding speedruns for some of the classic FPS games like Quake or Half-Life. I think you'll be at least as amazed. When people start incorporating rocket jumps into a speedrun, it provides for plenty of good "holy shit I can't believe they just did that!" moments.

I think the Quake 1 speedruns are probably the most amazing ones, though the game itself is so primitive that it's often more fun to see runs of more recent games.

edit: Can anyone tell me how to post a youtube video in the thread? I'm a noob.

It isn't my first one, just the first one of Super Metroid i've seen. I watched a Super Mario Bros. 3 one that made me O_O but the absolute amount of SKILL needed to pull off alot of the Metroid shit is just amazing. There is a difference between speed running a typical platformer like Mario, and speed running a Metroid game because it is more than just using short cuts. It is using really fucking hard to pull of techniques and shit. It is an amazing feat to get such a great time on that game.

The Super Mario Brothers 3 isn't so bad, you'd have to get that time whistle and wait for the right time though. I beat it on SMB All Stars myself. I've beaten SMB 2 and SMB as well.

Okay, here's what I'm talking about. You only have to watch about a minute to get a feel for it. I just think the acrobatics involved, and the decisions-per-second rate that the player has to pull off, is incredible.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other Quake 1 speedruns with decent video quality. :erk:

I could pretty much do this almost as fast when I was younger, except for the fucking castle.

Speed runs annoy me. It just sucks all the fun out of the game.

They add a level of fun imo - once you've beaten the game it is fun to see just how you can really beat the game. With Metroid sequence breaking, secret worlds, etc perfecting your technique until you are good enough to do it for a run just makes it so much fun. I've been working on alot of Metroid Prime techniques for about a year and I'm not even half as good as I'd need to be for a speed run.
