Opeth boring?

I used to listen to prog back in the day (read: up to a week ago) but I haven't heard anything progressive from that genre in a while. Hopefully, it'll wake up from the coma it's apparently in.

I truly believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, some people may find Opeth's music hard to get used to. Personally I liked them from the first time i heard them. The first song I heard was the leper affinity, a brilliant song wich grew when I heard it live. That's my opinion.:bah:

For being fans of what I consider to be an "evolved" and/or "mature" band, there seems to be a lot of senseless bickering on this board. I'm new to this one, so maybe it has been the trend since the board's beginning, but I find it incredibly boring. People have different tastes. There's no need to slag someone for finding an album boring. But, there's no need to slag someone for standing behind his or her words [ie: no need to slag someone because he's defending an album's worth].

I think I'm done rambling. It's not as though anyone will take this seriously, but it was worth a shot.

I haven't been on the board for a few weeks and it seems to have degenerated over that time. Really sad that it seems to be following the path of all other boards. Also, to Misanthrope, I understand what you're saying and totally understand, but one thing that pisses me off is people that seemingly come on here to post negative comments and you seem to fit under that category.

As was said; people have different tastes, let it be. Even though Opeth do have fairly predictable song 'structures' I still find their music way way beyond most of what I hear.

Opeth is the greatest band ever in my solitary, unique, independently formed opinion. Please, everybody else, think what you want! Everybody is entitled to their own opinions and I will respect them, as long as they don't border on stupidity and thoughtlessness... like being a rap/hip-hop fan! ;) I don't appreciate when people won't even recognize the TALENT in bands like Opeth though... argh...

Since when is having 'unpredictable' song structure the basis of good music? Sometimes the music just fits too perfect to not be predictable, so the theory itself is futile, IMO.

I think Mikael's growling is extremely accessible. He manages to somehow make his voice monsterous and menacing without sacrificing vocal quality or enunciation. He's the only singer who can simultaneously soothe and terrify me, and through it all, I can understand each and every one of his lyrics. It is my personal opinion that if you are unable to stand Mikael's growling, you won't be able to stand anyone else's either.

I never thought the word 'boring' would, or could, ever be used to describe a band such as Opeth... Especially from people posting on the official Opeth message board...

Quick summing up:

- People look for different things in music.
- No music concentrates on all areas
- Therefore all music is boring from certain angles and interesting from others. What one person finds interesting another will be bored to hell with, neither listener is better or worse for this however.

Opeth are no exception to this, some people will be looking for the things that opeth provide and will therefore find them infinitely interesting. Others wwill be looking at other elements of music, and have different knowledge of music and different exposure to music, and may not appreciate the band. This isnt unique to Opeth or their fans, its the same way with every band.

This board has certainly become worse, even the music section these days is simply made up of simple one line posts "blah blah sucks and are boring".. "blah blah rules and are the best band ever". So many people here have large ego's and think they have the only correct answer, there still are plenty of people who post great thoughts but they get ignored and the onslaught of single line opinions continues.

In music/art there is no correct answers, you listen to what you want to listen to and other people listen to what they want to. The only thing you can argue against is if people are listening to music for reasons beyond that they like the music.

I dunno, people just need to be more accepting of differences, and stop feeling better than everyone because of simple choices in music.
