Recomend me some music! thread

Long story short,
Never listened to Devin townsend before, recommend me something, GO.

I started with Addicted and Ziltoid at the same time, thanks to McSoyabean, and I would say start at the same place. Infinity is pretty great, as is ocean machine.

BUT FUCK MAN. GET EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also yes Deconstruction and all of the SYL stuff.
And there is that one song Pig that Steve Vai did which Devin wrote which is awesome.

Gosh it's starting.

Oh yeh his ambient CD The Hummer is good too, if you like that sort of thing which i'm not sure any of you do.

Ignore Keenan. Exhibit B is impossible to listen to in one sitting without killing yourself - such a massive disappointment considering that a few riffs and sections on that albums are excellent. But it's just too fucking long, rehashed and repetitive.

agree to some point but I think it isn't really a massive disappointment.
Some songs are great like Democide, Hammer and Life, Downfall.. but the other stuff is pretty boring for Exodus conditions. I mean even Exhibit A hit me more than this one and I was month long mesmerized by this album.

Anyone heard of this guys? I must say that they aren't "so bad"

Saw Diamond Plate open for Warbringer a couple of nights ago. They put on a good show and sounded good live. The vocalist worries me though..on the album and live his voice sounds strained. I'll be surprised if he can keep that up night after night on tours without doing some serious damage to his voice.

Got a chance to see Lazarus A.D. again and they killed it..an amazing live show. They seemed to have an attitude though..almost like they thought they were too good to play to the small crowd and the shitty bar where the show was held. They didn't really hang out like the rest of the bands. Lazarus A.D.'s attitude put me off and caused me to buy a diamond plate shirt instead of one from them.

Morbid Angel are pretty fucking sweet until you get to their last two albums, which're mediocre (Heretic) and fucking dreadful (the newest one). Death Angel... nothing to say really. Their debut is quite good, and their second and third efforts are passable affairs, but overall they're a bland footnote in the genre and nothing more.

I agree with Dave on Morbid Angel somewhat. I think I am one of the few brave enough to admit to enjoying the new Morbid Angel album. I disagree with Dave on Death Angel. They are a great thrash band with a distinctive sound. Their album Relentless Revolution is one of my top 5 albums of 2010. Saw them in February and they put on a killer show. I can't wait to see them and Testament on the 21st.

I agree with Zerostatic about Death Angel. Great band. I only have Act III and Relentless Retribution, so I can't really offer a complete opinion, but those two albums are fantastic.

Morbid Angel.... I was only on these forums for a short while when I was recommended them and I think I may have called them "shit" or something back then and ruffled some feathers ( ), but that was a long time ago and my tastes have changed a bit so I may need to do some more research on that band.

I saw them live two months ago (Morbid Angel I mean) and from a 17 song set, they played like 3 from the newest album (which is shit IMHO). Thankfully they were all in a row so I left, got myself some water and then came back.

Fortunately most of the songs (11/17) played were from Covenant, Altars and Domination (three of the first four albums) which was totally fucking awesome.

I've got Alters of Madness by Morbid Angel and I didn't like it at first but now I do, at least the first half I still need to give the other half a proper listen.

I'd say check out either of these from that album:

I think the riff on Visions From The Darkside at about 20 seconds is amazing.

Buuuuut from what I've heard of their later stuff, not newest, it goes all wierd and experimental maybe?

Just listen to "Destructos vs The Earth / Attack". Actually don't. Its terrible.

It sounds like the mix a bad Rammstein song with a Ziltoid rip-off and Nathan Explosion singing...

Listen to Angel of Disease instead...

Altars of Madness, Blessed Are the Sick, Covenant and DOmination are the only 'mandatory' albums I'd say. Formulas Fatal to the Flesh and Gateways to Annihilation are pretty good, but lack something from the earlier ones. And the last two are just rubbish.
