Satyricon

Satyricon for me is a godawful band. Even their earlier material (which for only one reason I will commend in that they were so young when they did it) is boring. I just don't consider them important at all.

Then you don't know anything about Black Metal, do you?
 The truth is I do like Burzum, but lesser than Darkthrone, Satyricon, and Emperor. I think Satyricon is really underrated and an essential piece of Norwegian 2nd wave BM
BTW, why don't you ever get on MSN anymore Hubster?

He wants to close it I would assume because we can only discuss the bands he likes and no one else's..

anyways I'm not a elitist by any definition of the word but I just don't like their Black n Roll style at all now that I heard their earlier style... If Satyr did those recordings at age 17 then he was one talented SOB & was really underrated.. and to bring Frost in with him also... but I definetly will be getting Nemesis because people keep recommending it and saying it's the best one out of the first three...

He was 16 when their demos came out... When you think he really had nothing to immitate or much to draw on given the scene was young at that stage and the 2nd wave had yet to really take off, you do appreciate it a lot more. Not to mention DMT brought its own unique innovation into the 2nd wave with the inclusion of the Medieval imagery and themes.

Yggdrasil was a split with Satyricon, so they both came out around the same time though DMT predated Enslaved's first album.

Besides, DMT has an accoustic guitar and a flute and much more of a feel for the period it was themed on rather then just viking metal.

Thanks for enlightening me! I had NO IDEA that Enslaved and Satyricon did a split together! What an informative post!

Nope, I just think Satyricon are hugely over-rated, they pretty much suck.

And as far as Enslaved go, without a doubt one of the best Norsk metal bands today. A flawless discography imo.

Of course Enslaved were faaar more important than Satyricon! How can anyone even think about questioning that? you can't just slap some flutes over some standard black metal and claim to be a "huge influence in the second wave", that's ridiculous! Enslaved were viking metal at their very core, with those lovely melodies in their very core and long, epic, exploring (like the vikings!!!!) song structures.

That said, fuck you Hubster, "Dark Medieval Times" and "The Shadowthrone" and bloody excellent! :kickass:
