This thread has a dual purpose:

To tell those of you who haven't heard them to check out Nokturnal Mortum, Drudkh, Astrofaes, Hate Forest and Lucifugum.

To ask those of you more familiar with the Slav scene than I if there are any other bands from this region worth checking out.

Whichever side you fall on, get to it ;)

edit: I'm also interested in Slavonic folk music, if anyone happens to know of any.

Aryan Terrorism (Varggoth from NM doing a mixture of raw BM and oi with mixed results. Very blunt in lyrical content -- "shoot the my pals, shoot them fucking all, a National Socialistic call" -- and very simple and catchy musically. Listen before buy.)

I'm pretty sure it's sorta tongue-in-cheek but it's pretty fun in any case.

As I've edited my first post to note, if anyone knows of any Slavonic folk music, I'm interested.

If it wasn't for the NS tendencies I'd be all over some of those bands.
The fact that the bands are NS shouldn't keep you from listening to them. I am not a neo-Nazi myself, yet I listen to many bands which convey such an ideology through their lyrics.

You may want to remove "through their lyrics" in order to avoid a GoD bitchslapping.

Forest/Vargleide/Raven Dark/Branikald all have a russian folk influence. Very repetitive material, but not particularly like "Transilvanian Hunger"

"Misanthropy" by Forgot is pretty interesting.

The new Dub Buk is good.

The AT has amusing lyrics, but there's too much RAC. not my cup of tea.

Hegemon, the band that did a split with Runes of Dianceht, is the best of the two. Not really recommended though unless you see it cheap.

We are forgetting old school Slav Polish cult hordes:

Behemoth *Before they changed to DM*
Profanum
North
Northland
Sacrilegium
Mastiphal
My Infinite Kingdom
Holy Death
Hefeystos *Before they turned gay*
Anaboth
Veles
Lord Wind
Thunderbolt
Kataxu

...of course their are more that do not come to mind at this point...

I could also include the billion N.S. hordes that can be found from Poland as well... :dopey:

Can'tsay i've heard any slavonic bm but i am interested in checking it out, i've been looking around for bm worldwide, i especially enjoy the isreal bm, pretty interesting stuff going on there, and brazil of course has some crazy characters.

Bahaha, I just listened to the song you mentioned. I'm a fan of punk rock, so I found the song enjoyable, but the lyrics are just hilarious. My personal favorite part was "SLAWA! SLAWA! HEY HEY HEY!"

More good stuff:

Pagan Reign. Russian folk/black with hints of NM
Warhead. Varggoth and members of Honor does black metal mixed with punk. Good stuff, asp the split with the crappy polish band Infernal War
Munruthel. Side Project of NM´s drummer
Sturm. Band from Belarus, that sounds like the rawer times of Forest
Old Wainds. Raw russian black metal

If you buy the new Hate Forest album Battlefields, you will get 4 tracks of slavic folk music (not preformed by them btw).

Temnozor and Tvangeste are two solid folk/black metal bands from Russia. I just thought I'd mention them. Also, since we are talking about Slavic black metal, does anyone know of any black metal bands from the former Yugoslavia (Serbia, Croatia, Boznia, etc.)?

I tried my friend, I tried...

Once upon a time there was Castrum but I believe they faded because Insanus started Unholy Inquisition and also plays in Gorthaurs Wrath (More Behemoth Dm style)...I have tried to scope out some bands but they are nearly impossible to contact, if you like black in old Polish style then you will like my old band (Feral Horde) where I and two other Croat's play. We have a new project in the works which will be alot more folky in Nokturnal Mortum vein with nice tech aggression (Pillars of Wisdom).

Nokturnal Mortum, Drudkh and Astrofaes are pure genius. Haven't heard Hate Forest or Lucifugum though.
