Hi folks and SX fans :)

What do you think about the lyrics and the title tracks of Paradise Lost ? Just a fight between the bad and the good forces as usual for SX, or a real satanic sens in this album ...

When I see that : http://probundi.free.fr/Images/Russel Allen.jpg I do not understand the real sens of Paradise Lost ... btw a f***g great album :kickass:

if I had just a little more faith in people...I would use this opportunity to jokingly post a fictitious story about how if you listen to the cd backwards you hear a recording of Russel having a few virgins while the rest of the guys chant/cut up a goat.

The point of Paradise Lost by John Milton is that since Lucifer is the main character for much of the piece, and the tragic portrayal of it "tricks" you into sympathizing with him. Remember, it was written by a very religious guy in very religious times.

Yngvai X, are you sure that this album is based on milton's work ??? To me, Milton sympathise with Satan in his work ( wikipedia ) and I feel that in the SX album too ... but I was thinking that russel was christian ... here is the contradiction ! :Smug:

Wearing a cross doesn't imply someone's a Christian (at least not these days), there's a chance it's just fashion. And in my opinion songs are like stories; you can read a story and not necessarily completely believe or agree with it.

^ Absolutely. And Jeff is correct in what the actual story is about, I guess kinda like 'A Pilgrim's Progress' another classic piece of literature, whether you believe in the underlying message, it is still a brilliantly written work.

that was me, not matt. And yes, i'm sure. It's been in many an interview and so on and so forth.

 I remember when we used to wear those Iron Crosses.... didnt mean we were NAZI's just sick of "the machine"

I was givin a Christian cross decades ago by my best friends Mom who was my Mother figure, she gave them to all her sons. I didnt feel good about wearing it due to my beliefs... which also extends toward "satanism". But I have no problems with use of such matters when it involves good vs evil or taking a good look at the big picture.... which in my book has less to do with "ancient actions figures" as it does human nature and phsyciological mutations.

I have similiar feelings about the issues with the "Rebel flag". Somehow anybody displaying the rebel flag is portrayed as wanting to put the slavery system back in effect. I think its just people sick of the bullshit.

there's really no question that it's based on Paradise Lost.

I actually agree with 100% of this statement. Symbols mean nothing until someone puts meaning behind it, and the meaning can vary from person to person.

What exactly is satanism?

It depends on what you mean by Satanism. Theres different kinds of demonology and demon worship, but thats not the "religion" of The Church of Satan. Satanism was created in 1966 by Anton LaVey. There is no demon or devil worship, you basically worship yourself as a god. He chose the name Satanism and used traditional satanic images to show that it was the antithesis of Christianity in every way shape and form (Satanists are essentially atheists and don't believe in "the devil" or "god"). Philosophically, without going into a shit ton of detail, its essentially Neitzscheism, and then they do rituals. There are many admirable tenants of its philosophy, and I was considering becoming a Satanist for a time, but the bad outweigh the good IMO (theres a big emphasis on domination of the weak by the strong, those who can be used and manipulated should be, and deserve to be). Basically like a twisted and corrupted version of the Randian Objectivism I currently study. Still, I feel more in tune with Satanic morals than Christian ones.

That too. I always thought of Satanism as a religion that suffered from some slightly fascist tendancies.
