The Albums Project

Looking back at the list now I'm just wondering how some of those albums even got onto it. Some of them have absolutely no place on it whatsoever. Drudkh? Seriously.....

I can probably think of about 100 black metal albums that are far more deserving of a spot on this list way before Drudkh and Agalloch.

No, we really don't need every last 2nd wave BM album before a Drudkh album, when they are probably one of the top three acclaimed BM bands of the last decades. Just because their last album or two was sort of shitty doesn't cancel out that they were pretty much at the top from 2003-2006, and only Deathspell Omega was consistently getting as much buzz.

Agalloch is not really black metal at all after Pale Folklore, so I'm not sure where that factors in the discussion. I think they deserved a place in the top 50 for their best album, but The Mantle is obviously an awful selection. The fact that they finish second means that participants on this thread thing that's the best metal album of all time. :erk:

The methodology was bad though. I think that no votes should have been accumulated until 20 albums are nominated. Then every one of those starts at 2 points each and you go from there. No way The Mantle is so high in this case. I think some sort of nomination procedure after that would be cool. I appreciate that people try to do some informal polling, but I think a 2nd or 3rd person should have to commit to backing an album before it gets on the list.

It was a mistake to not take Marrow of the Spirit over Ashes Against the Grain earlier. Marrow would have already been on the list, and then hopefully no one would have been obnoxious enough to suggest AATG for about another 100 albums.

Half the albums on the list are voted by 1 or 2 people. At least 4 people are voting up Ashes, I'm just doing it most often. And if you remember, I put Marrow on the list but it was voted off. Possibly by you among others?

Marrow hasn't been out long enough for it to have sunk in to the point where it deserves to be on this list yet. And I don't think it's their best anyway.

It's all a matter of opinion. Pale Folklore and The Mantle are better than Ashes and Ashes is better than Marrow. To me anyway.

As far as Agalloch goes, that's just false. BubbleRipper and I have voted for it a lot too. There is at least one infrequent voter, whose name slips my mind who also votes for it.

Also, Kreated's voting style is no different than what Avrigus (and probably others) has been doing all along.

It was a mistake to not take Marrow of the Spirit over Ashes Against the Grain earlier. Marrow would have already been on the list, and then hopefully no one would have been obnoxious enough to suggest AATG for about another 100 albums. I like AATG, but it's not great, and it's probably Agalloch's fourth best album, so no.

It's all a matter of taste. My ranking goes:

1) Mantle
2) Marrow
3) Ashes
4) Pale

Either way, Ashes was the best metal album of 06, so I don't have a problem voting for it before Marrow--especially since for the past few weeks the list was pretty weak-- as long as Marrow gets on the list sooner than later.
