The Albums Project

I would agree with that but Iced Earth isn't really that great either. The point of that post was more to say that Omen, Brocas Helm, Crimson Glory, Riot, Liege Lord, Helstar, and Cauldron Born among others are more deserving than Iced Earth, as are a host of European power metal bands, like Running Wild.

TL;DR, Iced Earth are mediocre, and everything on that list may not be better, but they shouldn't be on the list yet because quite a bit of it IS better.

Liege Lord is nothing special, the Omen album after Battle Cry is terrible (although Battle Cry itself is great poser-killing stuff), and Crimson Glory really only has a couple of godly songs amidst a lot of just good Queensryche-y stuff. Iced Earth on their first three albums had much greater variety, with really melodic power/thrashing to dark and doomy stuff like the better half of Burnt Offerings.

Queensryche needs to make it, though. The Warning did as much as Arch-era Fates to really make power metal what it is.

Well tbh, of the ones I just listed, Battle Cry and maybe a Helstar album are the only ones I think deserving of the top 100 anyway. And I suppose you don't have to worry about me voting it down while there's still stuff like Ashes Against the Grain, Voice of Steel, or At the Heart of Winter around. Dammit Kreated why do you insist on causing us to waste our (-)s on your albums.

^^ Bitencourt, the albums i pulled off made the list, i was just making it easier for everyone to add the albums they want, why would you put them back on?

I'm sorry, we posted at the same time, I edited my post adding your points and didn't notice you had pulled off some albums.

Holy Diver / Morbid Tales / Ashes

tbh I would have voted them down had they not already been. As far as early 70's metal-ish stuff goes, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin are more deserving.

EDIT: Although if Burnt Offerings and Kingdom Come both had one vote I would have -1'd Iced Earth first.

Actually, this is consistently a lot of heavier than anything Led Zeppelin did, but I still say that In Rock needs a spot first.

I definitely agree that Deep Purple deserve a spot somewhere soon in the list. I wouldn't really consider Zeppelin metal though.

^No worries brosky.

Guys, I'v never listened to Helstar, which album would guys advise i check out?

To be honest you can't go wrong with any of their first four albums. They started with a very heavy metal sound and got progressively more thrash influenced through Nosferatu.

Ok. To prevent whining for another few days until a new slew of albums makes it, I'm going to post my opinions on this list as if anyone cares, and though some may be controversial.

Agalloch - come on...The Mantle making it way too high was enough for the first hundred or so...
Amorphis - Karelian Isthmus anyone?
Bathory - Good but really inconsistent and The Return is better
Celtic Frost - Yes plz
Coroner - I can barely tell a difference in quality between the first three Coroner releases so I guess why not.
Death - I think it's overrated but I acknowledge Death has this whole thing called a fanbase so whatever
Dio - As long as Rainbow makes it first
Dismember - Yes
Fates Warning - <3
Iced Earth - Overrated USPM is overrated
Immortal - If this makes it before Pure Holocaust, which it probably will, I'll be pissed
Jag Panzer - Yes plz
Manowar - Sure I guess
Megadeth - Not personally a Megadeth but I recognize some quality that I seem personally unable to enjoy, and this is probably their best. Sure.
Metal Church - Yes
Metallica - Fuck yea bros
MDB - Their first album or one of the first two Paradise Lost albums or Katatonia's first album?
Nokturnal Mortum - Not really that relevant in the grand scheme of things. Maybe after the first 100.
Rainbow - Yes
Venom - Welcome to Hell is better but go ahead and get this ranked as high as possible cuz it's Venom.
