The awesome anime thread.

I actually had no idea Castle of Cagliostro was Lupin until I downloaded it last night and watched it. It's awesome, though! Thanks for that rec guys. Really loved the slapstick sorta exaggeration humor of the anime and it was really well done.

I haven't watched Lupin in probably over ten years and was able to understand it so don't think you need any prior knowledge except Lupin is a thief lol.

If anything, prior experience with the Lupin series will only confuse you as his personality in Castle Of Cagliostro is very different, he's less devious and lecherous in the film.

I've watched all 110 episodes of Legend of the Galactic Heroes two full times in the past 5-6 years and I feel the urge to watch it all again, it's that good. Leinhaato von Rohenuguramm for the win.

YES

BEST ANIME EVER

It is stupidly hard to get people to watch this show for some reason. I'm always happy to find another LoGH fan. Did you watch the two prequel series?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the animation which isn't good by today's standards. Many people probably take a glance at the animation and the length of the series and decide against it without realizing what they're missing.

Everything else about it is a notch above everything else in anime though - good story and intrigue, tense action, fairly deep political philosophy, huge ensemble of fleshed out characters, incredible atmosphere...

I haven't watched the prequel series. Are they as good?

Generally, no. But there's one or two arcs that are a must-watch for any fan of the series.

A Hundred Billion Stars, A Hundred Billion Lights follows Reinhard and Kircheis during their days in their military before the start of the main series. It consists of three 4-episode arcs, which range from good to meh (a couple of them are murder-mysteries for some reason. not exactly Tanaka's forte) and then a larger 12-episode arc covering a major battle with the Alliance, which is pretty great and prominently features some beloved characters from the Alliance side.

Spiral Labyrinth starts with a 14-episode arc about Yang before the start of the main series, although he's voiced by a different actor because the regular one died in the interim :( . It starts slow but is pretty great when it gets going and introduces one of my favorite characters in the whole series. Then there's three more 4-episode Adventures of Reinhard & Kircheis arcs, generally better than the ones in AHBSAHBL.

Can't believe you only have to go one page back to find posts from 2013. You fuckers need to watch more anime.
Lol this comment made me go back and reread this thread, which subsequently made me realize what a fucking nerd I am/have been.

I have't really watched anything new for quite awhile (several years) but I've actually started watching Food Wars! now, halfway into season 2 and I must say it is exactly what I was craving, shonen style tension in school life setting. And Erina is just adorable. I always fall for the grumpy proud girls who never can be honest with themselves. Like Eri from School Rumble for example.

i need to watch/rewatch the older ghiblis because i've really liked the last few and i'm wondering if i'm slowly acclimatising to their sensibility. WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE seems weirdly underseen, it's shivery good. i've been desperate for stories in that vein for a while (recommend more pls if you can) so it scratched an itch, although the final act could've been better.

i'm amazed you've never seen a miyazaki, pompey. not saying you'd be a huge fan or anything but that's just insane to me lol

here's a criticker collection with every ghibli btw

I marathoned the anime "Another" and am on episode 8 now. It's sort of like the Final Destination of anime. Shit gets real after episode 5. Sooo good. Basically about a class that is cursed and if they "break the rules" a student or a student's family member dies every month. What anime is everyone else watching?

I know this is an old ass post but I watched this a while back and just kind of laughed at the absurdity of it.

I've been watching One Punch Man lately and I find it pretty comical.

Basically its about a guy thats got power to the level of superman but no one likes or respects him. Hes just starting out in the league of super heroes and the general public hates him for looking plain and generally being boring and think he somehow cheats. All the other superheroes will be taking an absolute thrashing and he'll arrive and listen to the monster's speech then kill it with a single blow.

Kemono Friends was an absolute miracle. The best thing to happen to animation since Friendship is Magic, quite possibly even better.
