Of all the insightful posts in this thread, yours have definitely been of the highest quality. I'm just waiting for you to top an already supreme effort with something about fucking my mother or raping my dead sister. Keep up the good work.

(pulls maggots out of urethra) no, allow me!

i had sex with your mom and made ncerolove to your dead sister

muwhahahahahahaha1

I don't understand why people Bongzilla, or Cathedral, or Ufomammut. Piss on them. Oh, and Spiritual Beggars. They sound too damn mainstream for my own good.

In order to be talking out of my ass, wouldn't I have to be claiming things to be fact that are in reality not fact? Or does that just mean saying things that most people don't agree with?

This is pretty much all you accomplished:

Durr hurr, black sabbath are shit! - no reasoning
Durr hurr, anything popular is shit! - wow that was a very astute assumption
Durr hurr, anyone elses taste in music is shitty except mine! - nice job at discrediting anything you say from here on out

Tossing around a bunch of generalities about people you don't know isn't exactly the best fodder for an intellectual conversation my mentally challenged friend. I'm pretty sure, 100% sure actually, that if you weren't acting like an egotistical asshole about your opinion and backed up it up with why you thought that way, you probably wouldn't have gotten so much shit thrown back at you. But I'm sure that was your intent the whole time. To cause an uproar. To look cool and rebellious. Well, I hate to break it to you buttercup, but that card has been pulled before, and done 597823598235 times better too.

Decapitated was just a random death metal band I picked. I'm sorry you don't like them. I have no idea what they sound like, I don't listen to death metal.

Right...you've never listened to them, but yet they play kickass metal. Am I missing something here?

I'm pretty sure, 100% sure actually, that I didn't come in here talking about obscure anything. I never pretended that I listen to only super obscure shit. To sum up what I said: "I understand that people listen to bands because people have shitty tastes. Personally I don't like heavy or hair metal." Egotistical, definitely. Bragging about my obscure listening habits? Nope. They aren't that obscure, anyway. I listen to black metal, simple as that.

Refer to what I said before about other peoples tastes. I don't care if you didn't come in here talking about obscure bands, I brought it up because I can.

And I wasn't aware that my goal here should be to make people like me. I'm done being sarcastic - I don't really give a fuck if people like me here or not. I'm sure as shit not going to pretend to like metal that I don't like just to impress some "metalheads".

Didn't mean that you had to make people like you. However, if you don't realize that acting the way you do, causes all of this flamming, then there's no hope.

I'm here to talk about black metal in the black metal threads, and if I happen to wander into threads like this and profess my disdain for accessible metal, I'm sorry for any ill feelings it causes.

K, good for you.

edit: forgot this part

You want obscure? Ok. If you don't think Mictlantecuhtli's music is amazing, you are a fucking retard. How about that? Do I look smart and trendy now? Hah.

There's nothing trendy about understanding the truth. Pretty much what you are doing is saying that Freddy Mercury is shit and can't sing. But yet in reality, Freddy Mercury can sing, and is one of the best vocalists ever. Same thing can be said about Black Sabbath. They are good, but you are listening to them in the mindset that "god more than 10 people listen to this band fuck this shit!":rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Dear wagontrain
Your theory of the musical taste of the "average metalhead" is flawed, in that you yourself are an average metalhead. You may think you are not, but you are. There is no ranking system of metalheads, thus you are equally as retarded as everyone else.
Your oppinion about Black Sabbath is as good as anyone elses. You think they suck, a lot of people on this board seems to feel otherwise. You are both equally right.
But. by the use of simple logic, one can determine which oppinion has the highest chance of being true. Like democracy, the oppinion that has the highest number of supporters must be what one would call the "typical" oppinion, the most common.
Now, seing as we are all "average metalheads", we all have the same chance of being correct. But, when a large number of metalheads have the same oppinion, that oppinions chance of being correct is increased.
Thus, we can logically conclude that, seing as you are vastly outnumbered by your oppisites (the people liking Sabbath including me). Thus, we can logically conclude that your chance of being correct is strikingly lower than our chance of being correct. It is not certain that we are correct, and it will never be known for certain who are correct. But logically, we are almost certainly correct.

Welcome to science.

EDIT: Spelling's a bitch.

^ I'm not debating this because I definitely see your point.

But, the problem is when it becomes a popularity issue. Obviously there are far more people who enjoy Black Sabbath than those who dislike them. But...if you were to ask the average metalhead which is the best metal band currently out there, chances are you'd probably get Amon Amarth, Opeth, Slayer, and Children of Bodom for examples due to their higher popularity. Would a larger amount of supporters indicate one answer being more accurate? Opinions are opinions.

^Yes, I can see the problem you are pointing out.
But Black Sabbath must've gotten their popularity from somewhere, there is a reason why it's not a band like Love Sculpture that got that "mainstream". Good bands rise in popularity because they're good, and then the popularity comes into play fans-wise.
Exactly, opinions are opinions. It's like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, that ask the crowd thing. You pick whichever has the largest number of supporters, not because it is most certainly correct, but because the chance of it being correct in the end is higher.

Yes, obviously they are worthy of the respect they have gotten but with 'mainstream' bands, they typically are gatekeepers to the metal genre, so naturally more people will hear of them and listen to their music. So if a band is good plays a role in the beginning but after it's been well established, that's when you get the mass popularity which means very little.

I just don't understand why people have a need to make others aware of which bands they hate. It is an opinion and is something completely subjective. Some might say a person should provide reasons as to why they dislike a band as if it furthers any actual justification, but really it's a simple matter of tastes. For example, those people who dislike Slipknot because their guitar work is simplistic and not metal enough and then they go ahead and listen to something like Darkthrone. People should just get over the fact that their favourite band probably isn't the best band out there because it's certainly not proven fact.

To be honest, I have no idea why I like Cock And Ball Torture. The music itself isn't especially extreme, and the vocals are all synthed.

But I still do. Can't explain it.

As to everyone else's tastes, I don't especially care. As long as I don't have to listen to it or hear you going on about some band I don't care about, that is.

And I hate people who act like their musicial tastes are superior to everyone else's. And I especially hate people who think they listen to 'extreme' music, when infact they listen to Cradle of Filth.

I really don't see why you have to like Priest/Maiden/Sabbath/Slayer to be a metal fan. If you predominately like another genre of metal, why would you regularly listen to these bands? I can enjoy said bands' albums from time to time, but I don't own any of them. It is important to know the history and progression of metal, but that doesn't require that you like all the classic bands.
Agreed 100%. I really don't listen to the classics. They just aren't usually what I want from metal. I can't say I dislike them but this whole backlash against wagontrain seems rather absurd to me. I also think most of you misrepresented his point.
I don't understand how people like CC.

As for the topic, most bands I dislike I can see why people like them. It's the bands I find average, like Skinless and Decapitated, that make me wonder what the big deal is about those bands. They are just so average, yet so popular compared to their peers.

congradulations on having shit taste in music. Without priest, maiden and black sabbath, 99% of your favorite metal artists don't exist.

It's not because these bands are the beginning and the pioneer, that we are obliged to like them. In that case, you should like Elvis who used a guitar.

But I like Maiden and Priest...:worship:

Maybe catchiness plays a factor.
