The 'Little/Stupid Things That Irritate You' Thread

It wasn't meant to be funny. The point was you only wrote that shit because you wanted to insult Ken. The rest was just BS.

Actually not true...just turned out that way...but thanks for your epic response...I've never seen the need for anyone to come to Ken's rescue in the past...I hope he approves of you in the role.

Who really cares, anyway...big deal.

Oh, I got another one. People who mark things as shipped on ebay, and 2 weeks later send you a message "sorry my car died, I broke my leg, and I'm an alcoholic. I haven't sent it yet!"

I'm actually starting to not trust sellers like that. I ordered books off of Amazon Market place just about 3 weeks ago and they haven't arrived yet. The place I ordered from is even in my state! We need to set up Gulags for people who swindle money from others on the internet!

I've actually always had great luck with getting used stuff on Amazon. I get a lot of my cd's/books/movies from them.

Can I mention fat/obese people again? There's this 300 lb tub of goo that lives down the street from me who owns a pizza place. Man, it's like a dealer getting high on his own stash.

Dude, where does this anti-fatty complex stem from? I'm not offended (I'm skinny), just curious :)

I too hate cellphone drivers...though I admit that using a cell whist driving has its place, like when coordinating with other drivers on a long trip. But doing it everday just to chat with people is irresponsible.

There's a bunch of reasons for it. The most shallow of reasons would be that I find it disgusting. Right or wrong, it is what it is. I've also grown tiresome of being constantly inundated with ads/commercials for weight loss shit, dietary supplements, legalized speed for people to drop 10 lbs in 2 days, etc. And now, finally, we are hearing about the epidemic that is childhood obesity. It disgusts me to see parents projecting their gluttonous lifestyles onto their kids. There's just no fucking excuse for eating fast food at the alarming rates that so many today do, and even less of an excuse to knowingly pump kids full of the shit. Americans are pigs. They gorge at the trough and then when the doctor tells them their life is on the line they high-tail it in to get gastric bypass surgery. Why in the hell insurance covers this is beyond me. I've got some free medical advice that could benefit many, and it's called self control. Even worse is that I personally know 3 people who've had gastric bypass surgery and are all gaining the weight back at alarming rates because they think it's a shortcut to using their brain and executing even the slightest degree of will power. Sadly, during some of my less tolerant moods, I view the problem of obesity as a very simple form of population control. Americans are dying off in record numbers from heart disease, diabetes and other diet related ailments. I could go on, but you get the point.

Probably because it prevents obesity related issues down the line that they would have to pay for anyway. But I agree with most of what you said...though keep in mind that many people are genetically geared to be large or fat, though not morbidly obese.

- Bad manners. I was raised to believe that pleases and thank yous were customary, now they seem to be optional.
- Parents who sit on the train and make their kids stand. Lazy asses.
- Littering
- Raisins
- People who groom themselves in public. I'm not talking a quick run-through of the hair with a comb, I mean people who clip their fingernails, floss, etc. Gross!
- The sound Styrofoam makes when it's rubbing against cardboard
- When people stand on the left side of the escalator

Hmm, isn't #2 contrary to #1?

True. But it bothers me that in the U.S. we choose to focus the vast majority of efforts/money on symptom management or after-the-fact remedies. It's easier to shovel shit into your system for 30 or 40 yrs and then poof, a little nip/tuck, a couples daily pills and there ya go. Other countries focus more on prevention and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, mainly because prevention and a proactive approach is typically cheaper to implement. Of course, that way of thinking isn't so profitable for hmo's or pharaceutical companies and so there's never the strong push to educate people. But even so, the awareness level of the dangers of fast food surely are widely known, they're just ignored. And I also wonder how all the insurance claims stemming from obesity-related illnesses factor into the skyrocketing costs of health insurance.

I understand that some are genetically at a disadvantage when it comes to weight gain and the like. But I'm not suggesting everyone needs to have the body of an olympic swimmer, just that taking care of yourself and striving for a healthy lifestyle can benefit everyone. It could take generations to reverse these lifestyle trends, sadly.

Good points there! If people cut out soda and at least ate a banana or some other fruit once a day this would be less of a problem. You don't need to eat fast food 3 times a week because it's good. The only fast food I have had the past year was McDonalds twice and White Castle 3 times. How freaking hard can it be to just replace junk with something better?

3 times a week would be a huge improvement for the increasingly large segment of the population that eats fast food 3 times a day, or more! Funny thing is that I hear people complain about the "costs" of eating healthier. In reality, it's just another excuse because eating fast food multiple times a day would put me in the poor house, pronto. Then again, the typical American has an insanely skewed concept of "portion size." Folks go out for dinner and feel ripped off if they can't bring home a doggy bag.

Genres (in music)

When people bash Romeo saying he's a "yngwie junior"

DT irritates me a little, not the band per se, but how some of the fans are all like "I love prog! DT rules!" and haven't event heard of bands like Genesis, Yes and all those 70's prog kings. I know it's a stupid thing to get annoyed over, but it still annoys me :erk:

Manners as I learned them included "respect your elders". I see far too little of that today.

I would not respect an elder if they were incorrect or direspectful themselves.

In general, the survival of the human race is helped along if parents look after their offspring, it's not the other way around.

Yep, because there isn't as much money in curing the root cause of a disease or epidemic..sad but true. We live in such a toxic world now...even the healthy food we eat isn't as nutritious as it used to be, thanks to huge food corporations and bad farming/cultivation methodologies :(

I respect all elders. They have already lived through it all. And I may not know anything about their life experiences, but I'm sure they are worlds above mine.

Ever thought they are disrespectful merely because they are sick of younger generations disrespecting them? I would hold "respect your elders" more in absolution than circumstantial. An elder is an elder - and that will never change.

And, I don't think parents giving their kids a seat on the subway qualifies under your statement of looking after their offspring.

Age =/= Intelligence

I'm not going to respect anyone unless they've earnt it, let alone respect someone simply because they happen to have been born before me.
