I honestly don't do a lot of listening on a computer player anymore. It's typically Spotify, Amazon music, Google music or via thumb drives I have in my car for the USB port and 50% of my listening is in the car anyway.

I rarely play the actual CD because I don't like scratching them up. Ill occasionally get a stack of CDs and bring them along in my truck, but I mostly play from FLAC/mp3.
Another vote for Foobar2000 here. The program effortlessly manages huge media libraries, and is minimalistic while easily providing all of the desired info (interface has to be slightly modified from stock presentation though). Also good plugins for bit-perfect playback to satiate my inner audiophile.
