The Official Good Television Thread

Yup. Aside from the "no half measures" monologue, we never really got any of Mike's backstory. And now we got an entire episode which really explains his character

I'm treading this thread lightly as I'm going to start BCS soon.

Man, Frank Underwood is really killing my study and sleep time right now. What a great show!

The latest season of Archer is great. I figured it was doomed after the past two but this one is most chortle inducing.

Why did we need to know his backstory? It was already clear from before that he was a cop who was into the dirtier side of life. But his own failings in his son's life? And his obvious reasons to move to NM? Unnecessary, I think. Are we now going to explore all the contacts Mike made? Or is that for the 2nd spin-off of breaking bad, with Mike's perspective?

I usually post this kinda shit in NP but maybe this thread is more receptive/ appreciative.

Fucking awesome, such fucking awesome mini-series. And fantastic soundtrack. I just re-watched it over the weekend and holy shit. I was so focused on how awesome Kevin Costner is consistently, in every role, along with everything else in this cinematic masterpiece, that I didn't realize there's a new score composer for the collection.

There's at least five characters I'm torn on being favorites. It's that kind of thing.

I've got only a few episodes left of the whole Spartacus series. Overall it's exceeded my low expectations and turned out to be thoroughly enjoyable, despite its poverty of substance. The sex and nudity is beyond excessive, and completely desensitizes the audience to it. The same goes for the violence, though there is more room for creativity there that keeps it entertaining.

the show is a prequel to BB so why are you upset that BCS is exploring the backstory to the two mysterious characters of BB? i don't know what you're expecting from BCS but i thought it was obvious that they were going to explore Saul and Mike's background throughout the series.

I think there's a positive factor in not having every detail spelled out for you, it's what I consider wrong with the horror genre to date. I'm not mad, never said I was, just didn't think it was required to progress the show. BCS was obviously featured to show the relationship from beginning to the end of BB or wherever it goes, but I don't think Mike's backstory is required at all, unless a 2nd spin off.

Made my friend watch Quills for the first time... not a chick I can watch non-comedy movies with. Quills is a fuckin heart wrenching tale of a deviant who loves only to write and blaspheme, based loosely on Marquis de Sade. Even though there are some cleverly funny bits, its overall a tragedy. First time I watched it I was almost to tears more than once.

So meanwhile this bitch is laughing hysterically randomly. I mean she always does that in casual conversation for reasons I've yet to decipher, but I was particularly annoyed tonight because it's easily one of my favorite movies and I really thought she'd appreciate the depth of feeling.

Anyways though good fuckin flick if you haven't seen it. Probably not surprising, but from what little we can know, I dig a lot of de Sade's philosophies, so it touches my heart heavily. Atheistic to the point of fanatacism, openly sexual, shameless, beautiful character, very incredibly portrayed by Geoffrey Rush.

And if you wouldn't go gay as hell for Geoffrey Rush, gtfo. Another of my gdilfs.

I really like it too. It's funny. It's not especially sad. It definitely isn't 'heart wrenching'. You need a new heart.

Though I guess dumb shit like Free Willy makes people baw.

Compared with films like Nil By Mouth, Tyrannosaur and The War Zone nothing seems bleak or depressing.
