The Official Good Television Thread

Why do people never seem to get that you're mocking them/being sarcastic in these types of posts?
It's my air of earnestness.

You've piqued my interest in this programme with these posts. Sounds like something I might enjoy.
It's a great show. I haven't checked out the new season yet but I'm hearing nothing but good things.

Did anyone check out the first Ep of the new Walking Dead? So bad. I think I might finally be done.

I've not watched it since season 5. Specifically the episode where you think Glenn has died but you're not sure. I've been meaning to catch up but I can't force myself to do it.

I've heard from a few friends that the first episode of season 7 is really good. One even said it's one of the most gripping things they've seen on TV. Sounds like you don't agree with this assessment.

this could also apply to the current situation lol.
haven't seen the new ep yet but i didn't really care for where it was headed. the telltale game is literally 7685042 times better.

i've only seen the first black mirror ep (the pig one) which turned out to be amusingly prescient in a way but also wasn't very good i didn't think. i'm aware that other eps are supposed to be much better though, and i've enjoyed brooker a lot at times in the past.

I did see it but wasn't even going to bring it up. Black Mirror s03 to me is by far the more important television event right now.

I didn't hate the premiere although they milked the shit out of the Negan situation. It was a bit interesting to see a full episode of television just beat down the viewer like that. But I still think they could've done this in the last 10 minutes of the previous season finale and it would've been more effective. Credits where its due; <spoiler's> death was fucking sickening. I'm pretty desensitized to gore but it's still hard to watch someone you've been familiarized with by x seasons of television go out like that.

Not sure what was up with that premiere. Totally different vibe than the other episodes - even between the first and second there's almost a complete 180, at least in tone. Most episodes thrive on a low vibration of subtle dread, but don't beat you over the head with whatever new element they're introducing.

The premiere felt like shock for shock's sake. None of the measured nuance that makes the following episodes so good.

Why did you think it was bad? I was almost done with the show too after all the fuckery they pulled in the last season, but I thought they redeemed themselves with this episode. Loved every minute of it.

That's the point I think, to chock and get peoples interest, the other episodes, while often much more disturbing, they are more mellow and probably harder to sell on their own to someone watching one episode without knowing what to expect.

I think it is pretty good though, definitely not the worst episode of the series.

Drawing out the 'suspense' to the point of complete ridiculousness and then submitting us to some sort of blasé torture-porn is not what I'd call gripping or entertaining.

You're definitely right. I'll get on it ASAP.

This season of American Horror Story is the first to to keep my attention since Asylum.

It's got a bunch of those trademark random dead end quick stories and the story is kinda predictable despite trying to surprise you but it's got lots of ghosts and gore and no demon butt rape so far.

I've given up on TWD, pretty bored with it... but Negan gives me someone to root for so I'll see if it keeps my interest. Was hoping he killed Daryl tbh. I like Reedus but his character is pretty lame and was pointlessly saved as a fan service.

Suck my nuts.

Yeah I've heard that the new AHS is quite good, the witch season was bad and the carnivale season was really really bad, I didn't even finish it. Maybe it is time to try the new one then instead?

My wife and I were about to give up on the new season of AHS, but then it took an unexpected and pretty awesome turn mid-season. I won't say any more, but it was enough to seriously reel us back in.

For me it had really fallen off since Asylum.

Like Ein said, this season starts out odd, basically the first five episodes are prelude to the chaos... but it's actually been good again for the first time in a while.

You guys happy with Westworld? Don't think it's progressing to the point to milk out several seasons or am I being impatient? Good show though

I dig it. I think it's tough to comment on development this early, I have a feeling that some major twists are coming our way which could change the pace dramatically.

I'm digging the hell out of Westworld. Hence the avatar. Not only do I think there's a lot of plot twists coming our way, I think the opportunity to relate and read into the story on a quasi metaphysical level is only going to get heavier and heavier. If you can dig the show for the commentary on AI and life that it is, rather than a direct scifi western, I think enjoyment will be long lasting. There's a broad range of moral and technical implications beginning to be addressed and yet to be addressed.

Not to mention, from what I understand, the original concept involved multiple 'theme parks'. So there is yet a lot of physical/setting material to explore.

I will also contend that the most recent episode was kinda slow.

I don't think the interesting aspect of the show is 'exploring' these other 'theme parks' but rather the awakening(s) of the AI in these parks. But we'll see

I'm not that familiar with the original westworld, I've just heard that there were multiple settings. Kinda wish I had been because watching it now would probably ruin the show.
