i've decided in this age of over-information, i'm just going blind on any movie I want to see. thought I missed frankenstein, I guess we got a few more weeks to go on that one

one battle after another: solid 7/10 for me, definitely entertaining but not sure why it's getting praised to high heaven. I'll have to read some reviews and see why people loved it that much

I get that feeling yeah. I've been reading reviews and I see a lot of people seemingly taking what is essentially a 24-esque paranoid fantasy as an affirmation of their worldview, which is a bit disturbing

shouldn't hold that against the movie though. it was pretty great, just not the kind of generational classic the hype paints it as. lockjaw will go down in the canon of iconic film villains I think

Man I did not enjoy Sean Penn 😂 but yeah it's a good movie in these days of not having any options on the theater.

Benicio was just great. Couldn't get enough of that

Watched Toxic Avenger last night. It's nothing on the original but it's still ridiculously horrific and funny. I read that the main reason for the delay in releasing it was because it was so graphic that no one wanted to touch it. They're right, it is graphic but it's also typical Troma graphic so it's not surprising it was finally released by some (or all) of the teams responsible for Screamboat and Terrifier.

I have mixed feelings about the new Toxic Avenger. Considering it was delayed for 2 years because it couldn't get a rating, it really wasn't that extreme, and some of the gore is even shitty CGI like the whole concert scene. It also wasn't particularly funny to me, but I did ultimately enjoy it and the practical effects did look incredible.

Last night I kicked off horror month by watching Smile 2.

Though I liked the first one, this sequel was shockingly better to me. The lead Naomi Scott pretty much steals the whole movie, and the plot about a fallen popstar's comeback tour makes the premise really interesting. I'm a sucker for stories that take place in contexts like this (Her Smell, Vox Lux etc). Generally I just like that the director clearly went out of his way to make the sequel way crazier.

Some very bizarre visuals in this one lol.

For me it was the over the top stupidity of the kill scenes in Toxic Avenger that made it funny. But then I laughed my way through 3 Terrifiers and Screamboat too.
