I figured since no one posted any pictures of it yet, I would. Here's my Agalloch stuff.

If these are lyrics, everything I have always thought about Aggaloch has been validated.

"Charred birds escape from the ruins, and return as cascading blood."

LLOOLLLLLLLLL

They are lyrics. I generally don't like lyrics on shirts, for that reason. But this is an Agalloch shirt, so I can let it slide.

Haha, I'm glad you laughed about it. I just like to pick on Aggaloch, but I also understand when you're in the mood and listening to the tunes in the right setting the lyrics probobly come accross far less MEGA-pretentious.

those sound not so much pretentious as completely nonsensical

i guess "artistic license" will do that to a guy

hmm, i have a couple of those stickers, they came with a big pack of free shit (promos, an issue of BW&BK and an issue of Unrestrained!, pile of stickers etc) that i got on 06/06/06 at the big HMV downtown

I personally think Britney Spears is less pretentious and more tr00 than Agalloch (and I am not even kidding) ... but that packaging is super nice.

also their music usually rules. 'pretentious' is a word that, for me, lost absolutely all meaning in music a long time ago. and i'm glad. what a waste of time.

The word never had meaning with me to begin with. Such a tag is downright ridiculous. And is usually used by people who prefer to listen to hillbilly blues from Hank Williams, "ho down at bernies big backyard bayou" , as opposed to something with depth.

To be honest, I don't really pay that much attention to the lyrics.

Seconded. The last album that I memorized lyrics from was probably Rust In Peace.....................................when it was first released.

Nope, because pretentiousness = applying an aura of depth to somthing that is in fact shallow and/or forced. IE: The lyrics in question.

yea but see you're just as bad in the opposite way!

@tully: his point is that many use it to label things they don't understand

haha, not directing that at you, i couldn't care less what anyone else thinks about agalloch

and who gets to decide WHAT exactly the artist is "implying" in his lyrics? sure, they might look pretentious, but what i find stupid about the term is that you so rarely ever know. to me, people who call music pretentious as if it means anything conclusive are weird.

edit: wow i really don't make sense sometimes. summary: just because you don't get the lyrics doesn't mean they don't have meaning.

I get to decide, because I am the listener and consumer. Mr. Aggaloch Lyricist isn't sitting in my lap explaining what he meant by every-single-little random 'bird' or 'darkness' in his lyrics.

Yea I know, but the 'You just don't understand...' is the first sure-fire sign of pretention.

I don't read lyrics. Call me a jerk but I just don't think my friendly neighborhood metal guitarist is a lyrical genius, so I don't even bother.
Occasionally a certain line will stick out and I'll memorize it only so I can sing along and not sound like a fool.
