They are kinda chained to a particular place, so they can't go too far.
I remember when I was 12 or so and we went to the village where I was too bored to be with people, so I was spending all my time with some horse (i love horses!) on the field where she was, and once it was such a terrible hail, small, but it was still painful so I didn't handle it to get home, so I jumped under a huge tree and my dad came with umbrellas and picked me up. The horse was standing too far from the tree and couldn't hide anywhere, cuz her rope was not too long. I felt terrible.
 
I've only ever seen them freely roaming the fields OR chilling in a barn stall....never tied up. Maybe it's a geographical/cultural thing.

I don't do executive-protection, just high-threat. And yep, very very very very very very good bucks and it's been a steady clients for...well, when is the last time there hasn't been a war, haha. And yea, that pay is what I get, not the company. Well, I have a salary, but it comes out to about that much.
